When Venice still ruled the Adriatic, Dubrovnik was an important maritime republic and the floating city's chief rival. Dubrovnik proudly calls itself the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and its fortress is one of the best-preserved in Europe. As you walk around the imposing walls of the old town, look out across the deep blue Adriatic and a sea of red roof shingles. The old town, with its beautiful squares, magnificent boulevards and narrow winding alleyways, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore before boarding your ship and embarking on your cruise.
Today cruise the gulf of Kotor, a winding bay in southwestern Montenegro and a region that has been inhabited since antiquity. Enjoy the region's stunning natural beauty and rich culture.
This port city is the capital of Italy's Puglia region, and home to a maze-like old town nestled between two harbors. This small town offers much of the best of larger cities in Croatia, with fewer crowds. Its preserved old town is set on a small island, connected to the mainland by a series of bridges. Explore its baroque and Romanesque buildings, or visit the 13th-century Cathedral of St. Lawrence and climb the bell tower for sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and sea.
This small port city on the northern Adriatic offers hidden treasures for visitors, with its hilltop Trsat Castle, Habsburg-era promenade, and National Theater featuring ceilings painted by the beloved artist Gustav Klimt. Less-visited by tourists, get a taste of authentic Croatian culture in this charming city.
For over 500 years Pula was ruled by Venice, and its eventful history has left behind many impressive monuments including the amphitheater, said to have been one of the largest in the Roman Empire. At one time, as many as 23,000 spectators could watch gladiators fighting in the amphitheater, and even witness reenactments of naval battles. According to legend, the Roman Emperor Vespasian had this monumental structure built to satisfy the wishes of his beloved, as Pula was her home town.
Day 8: Venice, Italy
1 Breakfast
The floating city of Venice sits on millions of wooden piles and more than 400 bridges cross 150 canals. No other city possesses such an abundance of stunningly beautiful churches, monasteries, palaces and artistic treasures. Venice is a unique work of art and as such it, along with its lagoon, is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gateway to the city is probably the most magical of any in the world. Slowly and majestically glide past the proud palaces along the Grand Canal and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, permitting a long look at the fairytale setting of St. Mark's Square with the Doge's Palace and Campanile. Disembark your ship after breakfast to explore this beloved city before heading home or continuing on your independent travels.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.

Clara and Rhenee were gracious and available. Phone contact is so important to answer questions and discuss all aspects of trip. If not immediately available they scheduled a time to speak.
They were knowledgeable, honest, realistic and very friendly. They are both very professional and take their role seriously.
