Cruises to Croatia visit both the Mediterranean and Danube River. Ideally positioned on the Adriatic Sea, cruises from this small nation often include stops in Italy, Greece, and Balkan countries like Serbia, Montenegro, Austria, Romania, & Hungary. From the coastal city of Dubrovnik, you can explore the Old Town's thousand-year history & architecture and embark on a cruise around many nearby beautiful islands, like the Elaphiti Islands, considered a hidden Croatian paradise for centuries. From the renowned Dalmatian Coast, you can plunge into the cerulean waters of the Adriatic at the seaside towns of Split or Bol, where you can enjoy some of the best beaches in the whole country. A tour of Vukovar on the Danube will show you an important piece of Croatia's history, including their fight for independence.

Cruising between Croatia, Italy, and Greece

Some of our favorite Mediteranean cruises are between Croatia and Italy visit the Italian cities of Venice or Civitavecchia, just 80k from Rome.
The legendary Greek Islands are frequently combined with Croatia:
Mediterranean cruises in and around Croatia.

As you explore the history and sea scapes of the Adriatic Sea, you will swim in the refreshing waters of beautiful archipelagos with over one thousand islands, and visit cities with thousands of years of history.

The Dalmatian Coast: Is a narrow belt of the east shore of the Adriatic Sea. Starting from island of Rab in the north to the Bay of Kotor in the south, the Dalmatian Coast  is legendary for it's quaint ports, rugged mountains, dozens of spectacular castles.
Expeditions along Croatia's Dalmatian Coast feature charming destinations like:
  • Dubrovnik: A delightful UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic."
  • Split: The coastal city known for having some of the best beaches for swimming nearby, including the famed beach town of Bol on the island of Brač
  • Zadar: This city on a peninsula has romain ruins, medieval churches and trendy cafes
  • Mljet National Park: Where you can visit the Great & Small Lakes and a Benedictine
  • The Elaphiti Islands: An archipelago with crystal, turquoise waters great for an afternoon dip.
  • Hvar: A summer resort city known for its 13th century walls and ancient fortress.

Croatia FAQs

Why should I choose a Croatia cruise?
River cruises and sea cruises are a great way to see all that Croatia has to offer. The sea-faring ships give you access to the Dalmatian Coast and Dubrovnovik, while river cruises through eastern Europe will sail the Danube River. These all-inclusive packages bundle meals, transportation, comfortable lodging and daily excursions into one excellent value. And the fact that you are cruising in your hotel means that you can gain access to new destinations each day without wasting any time on buses or trains or having to pack and unpack your suitcase.

What should I look for on a riverboat or small cruise ship?
The vessels designed for Croatian cruises tend to be smaller yachts with occupancy of 50+ passengers. Each one features a sun deck with comfortable chairs, spacious cabins, and a dining area and bar where you can enjoy gourmet cuisine along the way. Some of the small ships and riverboats even offer free equipment rental, like bikes, kayaks, and snorkels depending on the itinerary.

Can I find a five-star boat for my Croatian cruise?
Yes and no – yes, you can absolutely find a boat that will offer you an unforgettable itinerary led by expert guides and enjoy lodging that ranges from comfortable to luxurious onboard the boat; no, technically none of the boats that explore Croatia & the Dalmatian Coast are "five stars" because they are much smaller than the mega-yachts that earn this ranking.

Should I get a room with a balcony?
Most people think that having a balcony is the only real way to experience the Mediterranean, but the truth is since the ships we feature are smaller, buying a room with a balcony can be an unneeded expense when it's just as easy to enjoy the fresh sea air from the sun deck or book a room with floor-to-ceiling windows for the same panoramic view a balcony offers without losing the floor space in your room or hundreds of dollars on the price tag.

What is dining like?
As you cruise along the coasts of Croatia, you will find that there is a unique style to the local Mediterranean cuisine. Mixed with international cuisine, you'll enjoy a burst of authentic local flavors on your river cruise.

Do Croatian cruises ever visit destinations that aren't on the Adriatic Sea?
Sometimes. The majority of our Croatia cruises do tend to stick to the Adriatic Sea, since swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and island exploration are some of the main features of these cruises. Of course, there are several destinations that are further inland, which you can access by a bus included in the price of your ticket.

Will my vessel have WiFi?
Some vessels that tour Croatia do feature WiFi, but not all of them. Please make sure to check before booking your ticket if that's important to you.

What kind of power outlets are there? Will I need a converter?
As long as your 110v devices are able to handle 220v power (which most are), then you will not need a power converter. However, the plugs are either three flat prongs or two round prongs, so you will need a plug adapter if you have flat pronged US style plugs.

How can I save money on a river cruise?
Look for deals and promotions on the Deals page for the destinations that you'd like to visit or just let one of our agents know where you want to go and we will loop you in to all of the latest deals and promos. DON'T try to save money by booking a lower class cabin since you will also be sacrificing comfort and space.

Are cruises in Croatia a good family vacation?
Cruises through Croatia can be an awesome family vacation, especially if you choose a more active option with swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, and archaeological site visits. Check out our family travel article for more information.

Do Americans and Canadians need a passport and visa to travel to Croatia?
All citizens of North America traveling to Europe need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months. In recent years, it has not been necessary to apply for a visa before traveling to Europe if you plan to stay less than three months, however, this situation may change in the future. See current European visa requirements.
