Day 1: Nantes, France | Embark

Embark Le Jacques-Cartier this afternoon for your evening departure.

Right near the Atlantic coast, on the Western edge of Europe in France’s Loire-Atlantique département, Nantes will seduce you with its rich and varied historical, architectural and artistic heritage. From the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, which along with the cathedral is the city’s oldest monument, to the famous Passage Pommeraye in the city center, the art museum or the Galerie des Machines, Nantes is a rather green city that holds many surprises. Jules Verne was born here in 1828. A museum bears his name on Butte Sainte-Anne, while on Ile Feydeau there is a commemorative plaque on the house where he was born.

Day 2: La Rochelle, France

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Located on the French Atlantic coast, in the Charente-Maritime department, La Rochelle will captivate you with its magnificent architectural heritage, its important maritime tradition and its gentle way of life. At the entrance to the Vieux-Port (Old Harbor), this thousand-year-old port city has three imposing towers, remains of medieval fortifications, today classed as historic monuments. In the historic center, you will discover sumptuous half-timbered houses, arcades dating back to the 12th century, many townhouses and the Grosse Horloge city gate from the old ramparts.

Day 3: Pasajes to San Sebastian

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
On the Spanish Basque coast, discover Pasaia, a picturesque little town nestling in the hollow of verdant mountains, on the shores of the bay. The town is home to buildings with historical significance, such as the Arizabalo Palace, a baroque-style edifice dating from the 17th century, the Santo Christo de Bonanza Basilica and the house where the French writer Victor Hugo stayed. The coastal footpath offers magnificent views over the sea and goes all the way to San Sebastián. Nicknamed the “Pearl of Cantabria” because of its shell-shaped bay, this renowned seaside resort in the Bay of Biscay combines an idyllic natural setting with the charm of the Belle Époque.

The following optional excursions will be available for an additional charge: Saint Jean De Luz & Biarritz, The Elegant City Of The Basque Country, La Rhune Mountain Train.

Day 4: Bilbao | Santander

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Bilbao, capital of the Spanish Basque country, is one of the most avant-garde cities in Europe. Its architectural audacity, as well as its ancient built heritage, will take you on a journey between traditions and innovations. An unusual cable car will allow you to reach the magnificent Guggenheim Museum, a unique construction of stone, glass, and titanium, designed by the architect Frank Gehry and home to a collection of modern art and contemporary monumental sculpture. The narrow streets of the old city and the unmissable Ensanche district are also worthy of a visit, as is the Vizcaya bridge, the world’s first ever transporter bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The following optional excursions will be available for an additional charge: The Treasures From Bilbao To Santander, Bilbao & Guggenheim Museum.

Day 5: At Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
During your day at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness center. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.

Day 6: Vigo to Santiago de Compostela

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Nestling on the Atlantic coast, in the south of Galicia, the former fishing port of Vigo is now the region’s largest municipality. Its old town, more commonly known as O Berbés, will unveil its many historical monuments and the unusual architectural style of its homes. Off the coast, the Cíes Islands, declared a Nature Reserve and located in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, offer truly splendid landscapes and exceptional biodiversity. Further north, make sure you visit Santiago de Compostela, which welcomes many pilgrims from all over the world every year. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its historical center has a significant architectural heritage.

The following optional excursions will be available for an additional charge: Santiago De Compostela, Vigo & Baiona, Pilgrimage To Santiago De Compostela, Pazo De Rubianes & Wine Tasting.

Day 7: Leixões to Porto

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Located at the mouth of the Douro River, the port of Leixões lies less than 10 kilometers from Porto. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historic center of Porto is worth a visit for its famous Ribeira district, the metallic silhouette of the Dom-Luis bridge looming over its ancient houses, its richly decorated Baroque churches and its national Soares dos Reis museum. The São Bento station is also interesting for its typically Portuguese decoration, using Azulejos, blue square ceramic tiles decorated with geometric patterns or figurative scenes.

The following optional excursions will be available for an additional charge: Porto City Tour & Wine Tasting, Tram Tour Of Porto, Porto Through Your Camera.

Day 8: Lisbon | Disembark

  • 1 Breakfast
Portugal’s capital city located on the banks of the Tagus, only a few kilometers from the Atlantic coast, is a city of exceptionally rich cultural diversity. At the mouth of the river harbor, impose two UNESCO World Heritage monuments, Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower. Sample the local delicacies such as the pasteis de nata—delicious creamy bakery flans. On the Alfama hillside, as you explore the Moorish streets, you may well hear sounds of fado drifting from the bars. Along Chiado’s elegant streets, big fashion labels will entice in you for a bit of luxury shopping.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.
