This Galapagos cruise gives you the amazing opportunity to explore the highlights of the southern islands on this 4-day cruise full of exploration and adventure! Explore pristine crystalline waters via outstanding snorkeling and swimming, roam the striking volcanic landscape, and observe fascinating native wildlife as you cruise through the beautiful southern archipelago. Enjoy the history and unique splendor of these amazing islands.
Arrive in Baltra where a guide will meet you and accompany you to the bus that will be taken to the Itabaca Channel. Cross the channel by barge and then continue to Puerto Ayora by bus. Once aboard the yacht, receive a small orientation while enjoying a nice light snack. Later in the afternoon, embark on the first excursion to the Charles Darwin Station and its Interpretive Center. Enjoy a walk through the port town and admire the various handicrafts. Return to the yacht and enjoy a nice welcome cocktail followed by dinner.
Punta Suarez has amazing lava beds to walk to and observe unique colonies of marine birds, including albatross. After lunch make a wet landing in Gardner Bay for a walk on the beach to observe a colony of sea lions. These friendly sea lions inhabit the beach in great quantities during the breeding season. This location is also an important nesting area for sea turtles.
Travel by panga to Osborn Islet and the islets of Gardner. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon swimming or snorkeling in the crystal blue waters here. Return to the boat for a delicious dinner and evening orientation.
In the morning head out to Punta Pitt in San Cristobal Island. There is a trail here that includes an olivine beach and a trail that ascends to the top of a volcanic tuff hill that passes through several natural viewpoints. Punta Pitt is composed of volcanic tuff substrate and the high winds here have led to natural erosion. This is the only site in the Galapagos Islands where you can watch the three species of boobies and two species of frigates nesting in the same area.
Later sail around Kicker Rock, a massive tuff-rock that juts abruptly almost 500 feet straight up from the ocean. Many sea birds use Kicker Rock as a nesting place. Enjoy some optional swimming and snorkeling at this location.
Make a wet landing on Cerro Brujo and walk over the beautiful white sand beach where you can observe sea lions, brown pelicans, marine iguanas, and blue-footed boobies. Have some fun kayaking, snorkeling, or swimming at this location. There are many incredible sites to see. Return to the ship for a nice meal and evening orientation.
Day 4: Mosquera - Baltra
1 Breakfast
Located between North Seymour and Baltra Island is the small island of Mosquera. The island consists of a long narrow stretch of white sand, rocks, and tide pools. The island is flat rather than the conical shape of the volcanic islands due to the uplift from the sea by underground seismic activity. Mosquera Island is a great place for snorkeling, strolling on the beach, and enjoying wildlife without the tourist crowds common at many of the more popular islands. After a pleasant visit to Mosquera be escorted to the airport at Baltra and return back to the mainland.
