Its incredible history spans over 2,500 years, and its historic center is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Day 2: Capri, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Capri may very well be the most popular island on the planet. It is a beautiful Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea just off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Bay of Naples. Capri town is the island's main population center. The island has two harbors, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate village of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west. From there visitors can continue up to the highest point of Mt. Solero. Besides some simply amazing shopping boutiques, the island has so much to offer including the ever popular Grotta Azzura, Villa Jovis, Giardini di Augusto, Certosa di San Giacomo, Villa San Michele di Axel Munthe, and the uniquely shaped Faraglioni Rocks. There’s also some great hikes available on the island; check with the activities team on board for more information.

Wine Voyage Activities:

Food & Wine Paring dinner with signature dishes from a visiting Chef, accompanied by Champagne Taittinger and Maison Louis Jadot

Optional Activities:

Capri – Blue Grotto Junket: Touristy, kitschy and fun! For those that "must-see" this well-known and visited grotto, SeaDream has made some special arrangements for you. A local motorboat pulls alongside the SeaDream gangway to transfer you, with a guide, to the famous Grotta Azzurra. Zip along the northern coast of the island before arriving at the grotto entrance, where SeaDream guests get priority over the usual tourist crowds. Transfer to one of the small rowboats that enter the grotto and the most extraordinary turquoise water. The luminescent glow of the cave walls reflecting in the seawater is quite a sight. Transfer back to Marina Grande on Capri, where you are free to explore the island on your own.
Duration: 1.5 hours

Capri – Discovering The Island of Love: This land adventure has it all! In love or not, sign up early for this annual favorite! Begin your discovery of "The Island of Love" by stepping from the yacht into a motor launch to explore the island's dramatic eastern coastline. See the famous Faraglioni Rocks, cruise into a coral cave, and explore the rugged vistas of Capri's tiny coves. As you step back ashore, head next to the high village of Anacapri in high style via your waiting convertible touring car (specifically made for the island of Capri – it’s a Caprisian Convertible!). Once in Anacapri, board a chairlift that takes you skimming over vineyards to the top of Mt. Solaro and its magnificent vistas. After some free time to wander in Anacapri, hop back in your car to wind down to Capri town, where you may explore the lush Cesar August Gardens with your guide before either returning to the yacht, or wandering through the shops and restaurants on your own. This is an excellent overview of one of the most visited islands in the world – enjoy every second of it!
Duration: 4 hours

Day 3: Amalfi, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Amalfi is a picturesque town in the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of Italy. With its incredible views, it is the main town that makes up the very famous and UNESCO awarded Amalfi coast (Costiera Amalfitana). Amalfi sports some impressive medieval architecture, including its Cathedral of Sant'Andrea (St. Andrew), the church tower, and the convent of the Cappuccini, founded by the Amalfitan Cardinal Pietro Capuano. They richly represent the artistic movement prevailing in Southern Italy.

Wine Voyage Activities:

Chef’s walk, Amalfi and Visit to Sorrentino Winery. Wine tasting with Louis Jadot

Optional Activities:

Amalfi – Fascinating Pompeii, with a “Whisper”: This land adventure is the opportunity to enhance your visit to the incredible site of Pompeii. A local guide speaks to you directly through the use of an audio headset, referred to as a "whisper". It allows you to listen to the wonderful detailed commentary of your excellent guides without straining to hear over other visitors and noises. From the ship quay in Amalfi, travel along the panoramic coastline and peninsula roads to the remarkably well-preserved ruins of Pompeii. Originally settled by indigenous people before the 8th century BC, and later ruled by Etruscans, Greeks, and Samnites, Pompeii became a thriving commercial center under Roman rule. It was a city full of shops, markets, and town houses, with paved streets, wide sidewalks, a stadium, two theaters, temples, and baths. Then, shortly after noon on August 24 in 79 AD, live cinder and ash from Mount Vesuvius covered the entire city. The community of 30,000 people was effectively embalmed. The material thrown out by the volcano was lighter than lava and enabled the city to be covered, with architectural detail, furnishings, household articles, and even foodstuffs and artwork preserved intact. Walk through the streets rutted by chariot tracks, past the ancient forum, the homes of the wealthy, and the shops of the common man. Caught in the moment of death, view body casts of the eruption's victims seemingly come alive in their struggle for breath, their desire to protect loved ones and their doomed attempts to escape. Those who visit Pompeii cannot help but be amazed and moved by this remarkable ruin and the story it tells of a city captured at the height of its power and the moment of its death.
Duration: 5 hours

Amalfi – Scenic Ravello: Enjoy a panoramic drive climbing up from the harbor in Amalfi to Ravello, one of the most famous and popular locations on the UNESCO awarded Amalfi coast. Ravello has long attracted writers, artists and celebrities, among them Greta Garbo, Gore Vidal (current resident), Richard Wagner, and D.H. Lawrence, who was inspired to write Lady Chatterley's Lover here. The winding route along the famed Amalfi Drive brings you to Ravello's main square, where you set eyes on the Duomo whose linear Romanesque facade is graced with a valuable bronze door made in 1179 by Barissano da Trani. To the right stands the 13th-century bell tower. Visit Villa Rufolo, a spectacular complex formed by the main palazzo and built in the second half of the 13th century, and various buildings in Arabian-Sicilian style on a wide terrace facing the gulf. Having entered the smaller 14th-century tower, continue along a small avenue flanked by cypresses and reach the Moorish courtyard, decorated with friezes and arabesques. Passing the knight's room, the picturesque belvedere opens up, a luxurious garden with pines, cypresses, and exotic plants. After exploring the villa, enjoy some free time to browse and shop among the friendly inhabitants of Ravello before returning to the pier in Amalfi.
Duration: 4 hours

  • Ship

Today, he works alongside his sons, twin brothers Salvino and Antonio Benanti. At the foot of Mt. Etna, they make wonderful wines from traditional Sicilian grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Carricante, and Nerello Cappuccino. Elegance, structure, and charm define both the wine and the men running this gem of an estate. They guide you on this vineyard visit, which concludes with a tasting of their top wines, accompanied by local cheeses, salami, and fresh baked bread.

Winding your way through small villages, lemon groves, orchards, vineyards, chestnut, and pinewoods, you gradually encounter the hardened lava fields scattered with volcanic cones. Enjoy the view from the Silvestri Craters located at an altitude of 6200 feet and surrounded by hardened lava flow. You're sure to appreciate this eerie, unique scenery as you travel to the next level by cable car. Finally, board 4x4 vans for the drive to the base of the crater, where alpine guides join you for the twenty-minute walk up as close as possible to the crater's edge. Then it's back down, winding through the fields and villages for a return to Taormina.
Duration: 5-6 hours

Taormina (Etna) Sicily – Land of the Godfather: Your adventure begins with a brief drive through the small town of Naxos, founded by Greek colonizers in the 8th century BC and nowadays a lovely summer resort with hotels and tourist facilities. Driving along the coastal road, reach Santa Teresa, the largest coastal town between Messina and Taormina. From there, a picturesque road runs inland to Savoca, a village in a saddle between two hills. Its scenic beauty and historical-artistic heritage makes Savoca one of the most attractive places in the environs of Taormina. At the entrance of the village there is the "Bar Vitelli", which has a collection of local artisans' tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot some scenes of "The Godfather". Your first visit is made to the Cappuccini Church, whose crypt houses the so-called catacombs with 37 mummified bodies in wooden boxes of friars and noble people who lived there in the 18th and 19th centuries. After a short stop at "Bar Vitelli", start a slow walking tour along the village's main street which climbs up the hill, with several Churches from the 15th and 16th centuries (Chiesa Madre, Santa Lucia, San Michele), ruins of a Norman castle, and a magnificent view of the Sicilian coastline, Strait of Messina, Italian mainland, and villages perched on the surroundings hills. Afterwards proceed to Forza d'Agro (a 30-minute drive), a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant'Alessio and the coastline towards Messina. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola came here when they shot some scenes of the film "The Godfather III". From the main square, a lane leads up to the close Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of S. Agostino (known as "Triade"), with a pleasant 15th-century facade. Before driving back to the pier, you also have an opportunity to see the Baroque Mother Church.
Duration: 4.5 hours

Taormina (Etna) Sicily – Lava Views by Quad Bike: Discover a side of Mount Etna not typically encountered by visitors to Europe's largest active volcano during this fun and exciting quad bike adventure. Depart from the pier by coach and start your drive passing first by the small town of Naxos and then continuing through the motorway and the local road that follows the slopes of Mount Etna. Upon arrival at the meeting point in the Ragabo pine forest, get your quad bike and equipment delivered to start the excursion. Discover Mount Etna, driving off-road through the Ragabo pine forest. During your drive you have the opportunity to visit an old lava cave and the remains of the past eruptions in 1923 and 2002 (last big one). Cross the lava mule-tracks surrounded by chestnut and oak woods. Also visit the oldest pine of Mount Etna called the “Zappinazzu”. Finally reach Piano Provenzana to see the remains of old lava flows.
