Sossus Under Canvas is a semi permanent tented camp in the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib area of Namibia's vast Neuhof Nature Reserve. Nestled between the Nubib and Zaris Mountains, this camp is just a thirty minutes' drive from the Sossusvlei Gate and the Namib Sand Sea, which recently received the designation as a World Heritage Site. The camp is only available on an exclusive basis, promising adventurous travelers a completely unique and off-the-beaten-path experience.
The Neuof Reserve is home to some of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the area, including Oryx, Springbok, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Burchell’s Zebra, Kudu, Hartebeest, Giraffe, Steenbok, Klipspringer, Bat-eared Fox, and Aardwolf, as well as predators such as Leopard, Cheetah and Spotted Hyena. The landscape is aw-inspiring: Neuhof has gravel plains, mountainous areas with dry river valleys as well as a large raised plateau which towers above the red desert below.
Sossus Under Canvas offers travelers a return to the wild with an authentic, back-to-the-basics safari experience that re-defines luxury. The focus here is not on creature comforts, but rather on raw, natural experiences that occur within one of Africa's most wild places.
The tents are protected from the stormy east winds by natural stone walls, shaded by roofs built from almost 400 recycled oil drums that give the appearance of pangolins and furnished in part from recycled metals and wooden pallets. As a result, this camp is virtually invisible from any distance and, together with //Huab Under Canvas, it will carry the lowest environmental footprint of any camp in Namibia.
• 8 shaded large square Meru tents (4m x 4m and 3m high)
• En suite open-air bathrooms with hot bucket showers and flush toilet
• Central dining, lounge and common areas
• Exclusive use of the camp
We are so glad that we chose Adventure Life. The service is top-notch. Everything is well taken care of and we just have to print the documents and go. Franny even gave us timely updates on possible airport strike.
