Ecuador: An Adventure With Diversity

Banos WaterfallAs one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world, Ecuador is a playground for anyone searching for adventure travel. Where else in the world can you climb a glacier-peaked mountain one day, hike through a cloud forest the next and end up at any number of white water rivers in the Amazon Basin? You can continue this adventure to the pristine coasts of the Pacific Ocean and out to the incredible Galapagos Islands. The Andean Cordillera creates distinct continental regions of enormous natural, geographical and cultural diversity enhancing any multisport adventure.

THE AMAZON

The Amazon jungle, known as the Oriente, begins on the eastern slopes of the Andes and extends for thousands of kilometers eastward. Ecuador's upper Amazonian region is a playground of pristine white water rivers and abundant cloud forest jungles. The lower Amazonian region is Kayak Ecuador's Amazon Basin with Adventure Lifecharacterized by its rainforest and multiple faunistic reserves.

THE ANDES

Two distinct chains of mountains form the Andean highlands with lush green valleys nestled between. The valleys are flanked by both active and extinct volcanoes and snow-capped mountains. Here you will find the imposing Chimborazo volcano (6310 m) and Cotopaxi volcano (5890 m), which is the highest active volcano in the world!

THE COAST

Palm-lined beaches, mangrove swamps and beautiful streams are only a part of the lure to the coast. Many of the pristine beaches will be yours alone as you relax in the warm equatorial sun. The coastal regions are home to wonderful variety of ethnic groups all adding to the rhythm of your adventure.

THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

Ecuador is privileged to offer its most famous natural reserve to the rest of the world. Located about 1000 km from the coast, this site that inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution offers a rare peak at fearless endemic wildlife. Blue-footed boobies, equatorial penguins, sea lions and marine iguanas will be literally underfoot as you explore this incredible archipelago.
