Day 1 Arrive in Rancho Las Cruces
Fly into La Paz or Los Cabos and transfer to Rancho Las Cruces.
Days 2-3 Rancho Las Cruces
Begin your days with sunrise photography sessions followed by workshops designed for what you’ll encounter on the voyage – composition, light, workflow and editing. In the evenings practice long exposures and “painting” cacti with light to create unique shots. Kayak pristine waters, hike with a naturalist and see endemic flora, or horseback ride. Learn about regional art and artifacts of ancient civilizations from local expert Enrique Hambleton, as well as the incredible history of Rancho Las Cruces from the owners.
With special permission, tour the homes of Bing Crosby and Desi Arnaz, with its guitar-shaped pool, and the property’s chapel. On your final night of the land portion, enjoy a farewell dinner and performances from a local jazz trio and dance troupe.
Day 4 La Paz / Embark
Start the day with specialized instruction to prepare for your photography and editing in the field. Then embark National Geographic Sea Bird and begin exploring the Sea of Cortez, with an afternoon hike or kayak at a nearby island.
Day 5 Isla Santa Catalina
Search the waters south of Isla Carmen for whales and bottlenose and common dolphins. Hike a forest of towering cacti, snorkel or swim at Isla Santa Catalina.
Day 6 Exploring the Sea of Cortez
With nature as your guide and cameras on hand, explore the Bahía Loreto Marine Reserve, a rich area for whales and dolphins. Anchor at Isla San Jose or a nearby island with a dramatic shoreline to explore by kayak and snorkel in bays of turquoise waters. Enjoy a beach barbeque underneath a starry sky.
Day 7 Los Islotes / Isla Espiritu Santo
Experience the delight of snorkeling with curious sea lions at Los Islotes. An indented shoreline and dramatic cliffs make Isla Espíritu Santo among the Sea of Cortez’s most beautiful islands, ideal for photography. Enjoy the views as you kayak, snorkel or relax on deck at leisure.
Day 8 La Paz / Disembark
Disembark this morning in La Paz and connect to your return flights home.

These vessels can reach places inaccessible to larger ships due to their small size, yet they comfortably accommodates 62 guests in 31 outside cabins. Cruise remote regions of Alaska, Mexico's Baja, Northwest Pacific and more. The feeling, we’re told, is often compared to that of a large private yacht, with everyone integral to the adventure.
Accessibility means freedom. Our captains have decades of sailing experience in the regions we explore. They know when and where to navigate so that you feel the places we visit are all ours. Thanks to our sturdy fleet of Zodiacs and virtually untippable kayaks, you can be off the ship and out exploring within a moment’s notice. Launch your kayak from a picturesque beach, hike with our naturalists into the rain forest or walk easily along a sandy dune.
Our seasoned crew consists of expert Zodiac drivers and considerate service providers. Their energy, enthusiasm and field expertise are sure to enhance your experience.
Our ships feature a Library; Lounge with full-service bar and facilities for films, slide shows and lectures; Observation Deck; and partially covered Sun Deck with chairs and tables. Our "Open Bridge" policy allows you to meet Officers.
