El Galpon del Glaciar

We are pleased to invite you to spend some unforgettable days with us at El Galpon del Glaciar. This lodge was formerly named the "Estancia Alice" and is located on the shores of Lago Argentinoin the suburbs of El Calafate, and close to the"Los Glaciares" National Park. The lodge is built on the Patagonian steppe, an area rich in rivers, lakes and lagoons. In this unique natural setting you will find numerous opportunities to watch over 40 different species of migrating birds. The Patagonian steppe is considered a unique ecosystem by the World Wildlife Foundation.

The El Galpon del Glaciar is only 15 minutes from El Calafate, and near the Perito Moreno Glacier. Here you will find a warm and cozy homestead set in a picturesque rural area. The 16 rooms are all equipped with private bathrooms. All rooms look out onto an incredible landscape: "Lago Argentino" and the Andes mountain range. The lodge's aim is to make you feel at home away from home by offering guests a friendly atmosphere, a warm welcome, and comfortable accommodation. On arrival a wonderful personal welcome awaits you. The restaurant serves a welcoming meal of delicious homemade jams, cookies, scones, bread and hot tea or coffee.

Whilst at the Lodge you can either relax in the spectacular surroundings or participate in some of the many activities designed to make you feel connected to one of the richest ecosystems in the world, the Patagonia Austral.

Join a walking tour that starts by following the trails leading "Laguna de los Pájaros" and the lake "Lago Argentino". There are numerous birdwatching opportunities. Over 40 migrating species visit the estancia from the beginning of Spring and many nest in the reserve by the lagoon. Discover the ancient Indian camping ground where archeologists from the University of La Plata have been excavating and studying the culture of Indians who once dominated the whole area.

It is hard to imagine this trip being complete without watching the Kelpie dogs guiding the sheep from their pastures to the antique shearing shed. Here you can watch the sheep being sheared and learn how the wool is balled up. End your tour with a delicious Patagonian lamb barbecue, served with fresh salads, homemade desserts and hot coffee at the Lodge's restaurant, whilst enjoying magnificent views over the Lago Argentino and the Cordillera de Los Andes.
