MV Aria

Cathy Baillie (Amazon cruise aboard the Aria, Mar 2012)
We have all ready treasured this trip as one of our favorite trips. We felt like we were on a five star riverboat. The cabins were to die for. As far as the rest of the ship we could not have asked for more. The chef was one of the best around. All the food was great from the dining room to all the treks they took us on.Never expected such five star service. Loved it!! I really can not discribe how fabulous it was,but from the beginning to the end there was never a hitch. Never a lull thru the whole excursions. We could set our watch to the time of all pick ups and transfers. it was crazy how well organized this whole adventure was. Bravo to all of the people involved. Thank you all for a great MEMORY.

Rob Dzisiak (Amazon Cruise aboard the Aria + Machu Picchu by Train, Mar 2012)
Our local guide in the Cusco- Machu Picchu area was the best we ever had. Carlos Vasquez Salas went out of his way to make our trip very special. A true gem.

Easter Island

Arlene Ursick (Easter Island, Jan 2013)
I loved Easter Island. The People were friendly, the island was beautiful and the history was amazing. Nic was a wonderful guide. His Mother is the Minister of Archology on Easter Island. Yes, he did know his stuff. The restaurants were pretty expensive. Meals were about $25.00 plus drinks.

Eric Wolters (Easter Island, Nov 2012)
The Easter Island tour was one of the most unforgettable trips of our lives! The itinerary was perfect. The full- and half-day excursions were exciting, and we never felt like we needed to rush to squeeze everything in. There was plenty of time to take in everything the island has to offer, and plenty of free time to relax and enjoy our vacation. The extra day that we built in added the right amount of breathing room. We used it to simply relax, take in the town and the culture, and do a little shopping. We didn't get to see and do everything, but we definitely don't feel like we missed anything. This trip was everything that we were hoping it would be, and so much more!

Matt Dickendesher (Easter Island, Jul 2012)
Local guide was OUTSTANDING!!! Other staff (drivers, etc) were GREAT!! Hotel in Lima not the greatest, but was good enough for a 1 night stay. Small room, hotel needs an upgrade. Accommodations on Easter Island were great. I could keep trying to describe my 5 days on Easter Island, but all I would do is keep coming back to the word AMAZING!!

Amazon Lodge Extension

Olga Rondem (Peru Amazon + Machu Picchu, Sep 2012)
The whole trip was awsome and very exciting...Happy that we ended up having a tour guide for only the two of us! Santiago was great and helped us to have an awsome time in Peru! John in the Amazon was excellent also...

Mike Hocherl (Machu Picchu by Train + Amazon Lodge, Sep 2012)
Adventure Life was great support and knowledge of the area...made me feel at ease traveling solo. Guides were awsome...no worries at all they took ther time explaining things. No set backs...felt safe at all times traveling alone..no planes or trains were late. I will never forget...tell people all the time my experiance and what travel agent I used. GREAT experience....will use again...THANKS

Sally McElroy (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage + Sandoval Lake Amazon Lodge + Lake Titicaca, Aug 2012)
It was absolutely a wonderful trip!! It was a fascinating from the beginning to end - I didn't want it to end. The guides, drivers, porters were all fabulous. Our guide, Carlos Vasquez(?) for the Cuzco and the Inca Trail was fabulous!! Javier for Lake Titicaca was also good. Thanks Adventure Life for making it a trip of a life time. Hope to do another trip with you in the future.

Paracas and Nazca

Karla Petersen (Peru Amazon + Naca Extension + Machu Picchu by Train, May 2012)
I plan to return to Peru to see parts not visited on this trip, which is a sign of a great trip for me. The only complaints are all due to restrictions we put on the trip ourselves, mainly moving around too much. There were so many things we wanted to do and see and only so much time. It would have been better to have limited the places visited or taken more time, so that we could have enjoyed getting to know places more deeply. That problem was, as I said, of our creation, not Adventure Life. Loved the Inkaterra and Heath River especially. The Casa Andina Private Collection in Cusco had a great location for getting around town, while still being a bit away from the busiest areas. Guides in the highlands (Carlos) and Amazon (Oscar) were very knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. They worked hard to make sure we had a good experience. The staff at Heath River Nature Reserve were especially wonderful.

Arequipa & Colca Canyon

Bernice Meyers (Machu Picchu by Train + Peru Amazon + Colca Canyon + Galapagos Cruise (Seaman II), Aug 2011)
A wonderful, exciting and amazing experience. Organization, synchronization and punctuality are to be commended. Peruvian time, described in many Travel books as unpunctual, was experienced by me as more punctual than Swiss time! I enjoyed the low key, homely atmosphere of many of the places we stayed at (Quelketani in Puno, El Source in Ollaytantambo, Rabida in Quito). I also enjoyed the more luxurious places (Colca Canyon Lodge and Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel). Varied and adventurous, interesting and beautiful.

Len Meyers (Machu Picchu + Peru Amazon + Galapagos Cruise aboard the Seaman II, Aug 2011)
An amazing, fantastic, fabulous, learning and cultural experience. Each day was a new and exciting experience. 10 stars. Our guides Marcello and Vidal were very professional and knowlegable about the subject. It was an amazing learning experience. Better than a college year.

Adventure Life was an absolute joy and delight to work with. The knowledge of Peru added value to our trip and we were able to design a very full and comprehensive schedule. All plans and especially schedules were exactly spot on. Well done.

Lake Titicaca with Homestay

BrandE Faupell (Machu Picchu by Train + Lake Titicaca, Oct 2012)
We had a FABULOUS trip. The food was someone the best I have eaten anywhere in the world. Machu Picchu was everything I hoped for, and thanks to Vidal's skill and knowledge we saw it in the best possible time, fewest crowds. Cusco was wild (meaning fantastic!) and thanks to his recommendations we had superb food, fun shopping, and an adventure finding taxis because of a local transportation strike. The homestay at Lake Titicaca was just as fun. great accommodation, lovely family, incredible food made by our host. We loved every minute of the trip and plan to do another one with our grown kids and a few like minded friends. Thank you, Adventure Life!

Justin Henkel (Manco Multisport + Lake Titcaca, Sep 2012)
Vidal was absolutely amazing as guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He really was able to craft the trip in some areas to avoid the crowds, such as in Macchu Pichu we were really able to get almost a personal experience of the area. Everywhere we went he was able to talk in great detail about the history and culture.

Sally McElroy (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage + Sandoval Lake Amazon Lodge + Lake Titicaca, Aug 2012)

Lake Titicaca

Torre Sullivan (Bolivia Backroads + Chalalan Lodge + Lake Titicaca, Apr 2012)
Our Bolivia tour was outstanding. I had no ideas what a wonderful country Bolivia was before we went on our trip there. The various landscapes and the colorful, friendly people were amazing. Every place we stayed was great. Our guide was incredible and everywhere we went we felt welcomed and safe. I put Bolivia on my top ten countries to visit and that is saying something. I would recommend Bolivia to anyone.

Patricia McCarthy (Lake Titicaca + Machu Picchu by Train, Sep 2010)
We had waited a long time to take this trip. At first we were hesitant about a tour but our trip would not have been as enjoyable, informative and cultural if we would have done it on our own. Adventure Life was thorough, responsive and factual. It all started with Brandy and on to Jennifer ... an excellent team and most responsive and informative. Guide, hotels, transportation were excellent. We regret that we were not able to do the Inca Trail Trek because of time but we were able to experience some of it. Having Peruvian guides added to the learning and experience.

Lake Titicaca at Titilaka Lodge

Janice Maurer (Lake Titicaca at Titilaka Lodge + Machu Picchu by Train, Dec 2010)
Adventure Life helped create a site seeing package that was full of interesting sites, and was presented by very informed educated guides. We loved it all and would recommend seeing Peru with Adventure Life and their experience crews.

Cachiccata Group Service Project

Carmen Pehler (Cachiccata Group Service Project + Cachiccata Group Service Project with Machu Picchu, Sep 2010)
Teddy Romero was our guide through the entire trip and he was amazing. Very knowledgeable about Peru and what we were seeing/doing, but also funny and a joy to be around.

The hotels were all great. We also had 7 nights in tents and those nights were good too. We had thought about renting sleeping bags once we were there, but we're glad we brought our own.

From Kassi's help in deciding on a trip itinerary to Tami and Laura's logistical guidance, we felt informed and prepared as we left for our trip! Their responses to our questions were always thorough and timely.

We had a great time and even as we were returning home, we started dreaming about our next adventure with Adventure Life. Thank you for making our trip unforgettable!

Mancora Beach Extension

Christian Delvoie (Machu Picchu by Train + Mancora Beach + Wild Tambopata, Sep 2012)
All three guides (Cusco/MC; Manu and Tambopata were excellent and very attention-ate. We recommend them highly. Pick ups were good, but avanced notice through the previous guides would help, as we were transiting from group to group. Briefing in Cusco from the Manu people was very good. Extremely satisfied with the tour overall. We will recommend you.

Cordillera Blanca Trek

Jackie Corday (Cordillera Blanca Trek, Jul 2012)
Could not have been more pleased!! I just wanted to say how much my 3 friends and I enjoyed our 5 day Santa Cruz trek with Edwin, Luis, and Ciro (hope I spelled those right!). It was such an incredible experience to see the Peruvian Andes for the first time with the most knowledgeable, friendly, VERY patient, and caring guide I have ever met. Edwin must have been asked at least 100 questions a day between the 4 of us and yet he answered each one with such knowledge and patience! Luis and Ciro were so much fun to hang out with each night and we enjoyed so much the food served for every meal and having our tents set up and hot water waiting was such a treat!! Loved the food at both El Patio and on the trek. We will all highly recommend your company and these staff to all of our friends and family! We can't wait to save up again for another hike in the Cordillera Blanca!

Machu Picchu by Train with Luxury Hotels

Oliver Stanton (Machu Picchu by Train + Custom Bolivia, Sep 2012)
Kassandra was first rate, The trip was essentially flawless so she got the job done. Vidal was fantastic. John was great. Lake Titicaca trip:Great local meal on Sun Island.

Eric McLaughlin (Machu Picchu by Train with Luxury Hotels, Aug 2012)
One of my top-10 experiences...ever...and this was my third time visiting Machu Picchu.

Barbara Morrison (Islands and Incas + Machu Picchu by Train + Machu Picchu by Train with Luxury Hotels + Cruise on Isabela II, Apr 2011)
It was an adventure of a lifetime and we're so glad we took this trip. Local crew from Adventure Life were terrific. When we wanted something, they did their best to take care of it. On the whole, all went well and we had a great time. The guide in Cusco taught us so much about the Incas and we loved learning about them. Two things I didn't expect (that weren't really talked about): 1. the high altitude in Quito - had no idea. 2. Galapagos was more difficult walking than expected due to uneven volcanic rock. Probably could have used walking sticks there.

All but the Casa Andina had very nice food and the restaurants we went to were excellent and recommended by our various guides. Kapawi had very good food even when the supplies got limited our last day+. They certainly were creative. Isabela !! had excellent food and good variety.

Machu Picchu by Train

Joyce Akins (Machu Picchu by Train, Dec 2012)
I loved taking different modes of transportation to get to Machu Picchu. It really built up the suspense. The information you provided to prepare for the trip was very thorough, especially the part about the toilet paper, having crisp dollar bills to exchange and being in good health. With all the walking and moving from place to place, anyone taking this trip needs to be in relatively good shape. For shoppers like me, you might want to add that this is not necessarily a shopping trip, although there are opportunities to shop. People on this tour should grab any chance they get to shop and be ready to make quick decisions. I realize that it is important to stay on schedule with the distances we had to travel. It was good to have one full day at the end in Cusco--the market was a sight to behold. On the final travel day back to the U.S., the day is really long if you don't get out of the airport and take a tour of Lima. I took this trip to get away and have a new experience. It definitely lived up to my expectations. Thanks for making this happen on such short notice!

Penny Baughen (Machu Picchu by Train + Galapagos Cruise aboard the Eric, Letty & Flamingo, Oct 2012)
We booked late but Kassandra made every effort to find a trip to suit our dates which worked out so well. It really was a trip of a lifetime. We cannot say enough good things about Vidal in Peru - he was amazing - knowlegeable, enthusiastic. He made our week. All the staff on the Letty were wonderful and guides Cece and Gustavo were excellent. And it has given us a taste for more. Our only regret is that we did not give ourselves any time to see Quito. But that just means we will have to go back :)

Machu Picchu Pilgrimage - Inca Trail

Kate Aiello-Howard (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Dec 2012)
From booking to landing back in the U.S., Adventure Life--the trip, the guide, the porters, the hotels, was fantastic. Completely exceeded our expectations and we had a great honeymoon!

Andrew Howard (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Dec 2012)
I have never had such a worry-free, worthwhile, and memorable experience. We wanted for nothing and yet we still had to work for it--that's the Adventure in Adventure Life! I don't even care where the next trip is--if it's Adventure Life, sign me up. Great choice of hotels and the camping equipment was top notch! I don't know how our cook kept making new and delicious food each day along the hike, but he did. From summiting Dead Woman's Pass at 14,000 feet, to spending a day on our own in Machu Picchu, Adventure Life gave us the chance to go out and touch another world. Exceeding my expectations.

Loye Howell (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage Custom, Dec 2012)
I loved it. It couldn't have been better. Everything was perfect. Exceeded my expectations.

Elaine Leavitt (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Oct 2012)
Beyond my life and good fortune as a wife and a mother, this was the most incredible journey of my lifetime. I know the tour guide was a definite strength but everything Adventure Life prepared and offered were equally important. Erin did an incredible job at explaining costs and initiating the coordination of 4 couples and their specific needs.

As a vegetarian I was extremely impressed with the porters ability to satisfy my needs as well as the non-vegetarians on the trip. Our guide Ayul was extraordinary. I cannot express to Adventure Life what an amazing guide you have in him. I know that any tour-guided trip I may take in the future will include researching who the guide is and what his/her background is. You folks are amazing if all of your guides are like him! All the other local staff were equally as impressive. Excellent aspect of Adventure Life. Thank you!

Islands and Incas - Galapagos & Machu Picchu

Donald Wolkerstorfer (Islands and Incas, Apr 2011)
Overall we were very happy with our trip. We were totally impressed with our two guides and with all the drivers and escorts at every step of the way. When I thought I had left my camera at a restaurant, Alex went out of his way to try to find it (luckily, I had simply misplaced it in one of my bags). Enrique was very, very patient with Paula as she learned how to snorkel, and when she hurt her back the last day on ship, Javier of Journey 1 (M/C Anahi) and Luis were most helpful. We were impressed with the care shown to an elderly couple on Journey 1. Everything worked like clockwork. The time spent in the Galapagos seemed more inclusive than what we have read about other tours. It was a great adventure!

Manco Multisport

Kate Kenney (Manco Multisport + Lake Titcaca, Oct 2012)
Highlights include... The incredible scenery of our Quenua Sundur Valley hike and camping at the ruins -- we had that spectacular place to ourselves and the stars that night were unforgettable. Sunset on Lake Titicaca from the top of Amanti Island -- our guide said he's never seen one so awesome. Spending time with Don Francisco and friend around our campfire and talking with others in his community. Chichero weaving demonstration was a real treat. The chance to meet many joyful,hard-working and delighful local Peruvians. Our Sacred Valley tour was outstanding and Juan showed us all the places we asked about. Machu Picchu was amazing and having two days there to fully enjoy it worked out perfectly. We had perfect weather (for the whole trip actually), and did all the hikes we wanted to do. The Huayna Picchu hike was WILD!

Enjoyed working with Erin to put together our customized trip. She is very enthusiastic and quick to respond. Cusco hotel San Agustin Dorada was very nice and the location was excellent. El Mapi at Machu Piccu Pueblo was wonderful. Puno hotel Q'Elqatani was fine. Camping locations were incredible and the setups and service made it very comfortable. Homestay settings were both breathtaking locations and very comfortable as well. Food was good and plentiful. Our Sacred Valley picnic lunch was excellent. Camping meals were nicely ... Read All

This was a TRIP OF A LIFETIME! I'm so glad that I was able to go and see all that I did while experiencing so many new things. I will remember it for the rest of my life. Our guide Juan knew how to help personalize the trip and help with interactions among the locals. It was a an amazing trip and I will never forget. Thank you for all you did to ensure that this trip was successful!

Dorielle Ludwig (Manco Multisport, Aug 2012)
Although we initially thought we would be traveling with a group of people, we were the only two who signed up for this week in August. It ended up being a treat as we were able to experience even more than I think we would have otherwise. Adventure Life did this, that, and EVERYTHING in between. My husband, having just taken his medical boards, found this to be a delightful treat. I missed the opportunity of having to "figure things out" a little bit, but with that being said, this trip was COMPLETELY stress free as everything had been thought of for us. If you are looking to take a trip to South America and have any reservations about having to figure things out (travel, money, etc.), traveling with Adventure Life makes it seamless, easy, and second nature.

I could not believe the details; we even had a porto john in the middle of Peru along the Incan Trail. For someone who has "roughed" it many times, the camping part seemed luxurious (they set up our tents, cooked for us, set up a bathroom, broke down camp...we were spoiled). The people and culture of Peru is unforgettable. Machu Picchu was more magical, spiritual, and breathtaking than either of us imagined. Juan provided us with about 5 hours to just "be" there; in which we chose three different spots around the ruins to just sit and take it all in from different vantage points. When we departed, ... What an adventure! We have never had such a luxurious camping experience. It was perfect for honeymoon camping to have help with our stuff, camp set up for us, and great food at every stop. The mountain biking portion was not quite as long as expected, only about two hours instead of the suggested 4 in the itinerary. That could have been longer. Rafting was great and they took great care of us. Juan was a very caring guide and we missed him when we were on our own!

Matthew Smith (Manco Multisport, Sep 2011)
The tour was something we'll never forget and exceeds any trip we have put together on our own. Juan was by far our favorite guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would go on a tour with him again if given the opportunity. We would definitely go through Adventure Life again.

Choquequirao Trek and Machu Picchu

Wendy Crist (Choquequirao Trek & Machu Picchu, Nov 2012)
The Choquequirao trek was difficult but not impossible, and definitely worth every steep step. The ruins are beautiful and worth every effort of getting there. Our guide, Juan Barrios Samanez, was AWESOME! Very knowledgeable, very friendly, and very professional. He put us at ease so that we didn't have to worry about a thing. We could tell that he enjoyed his job. Juan made this vacation a very memorable one. Our family will always have wonderful memories of the time shared with Juan in Peru. The other crew members on the Choquequirao trek, Delfin the Cabellero, Heber the Chef, and Santos the assistant were all AWESOME too. The food was abundant and very delicious. We enjoyed the flavorful, local cuisine. The whole staff was hard-working, and we appreciate all they did to make us comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed their company while adventuring in their country.

Lisa Childers (Wild Tambopata + Choquequiaro Trek and Machu Picchu, Jun 2011)
The personalized guided tour really made the trip special. Everyone was amazingly helpful and amiable. The food on our trek was the best of the whole trip. Who would have expected the camping food to be the best? Everything else was quite acceptable, but not the gourmet cuisine of our trek.

Panoramic Peru

Andrea Szabo (Panoramic Peru, Aug 2012)
Carlos and all the staff were just simply amazing with their knowledge and friendship!!! Since I have been home, everybody I know have asked me would I go again and my answer is always "Yes, in a heartbeat. We had such an amazing, wonderful, magical time on our holiday and met some gorgeous people!!! Amazing!!!

Maris Borg (Panoramic Peru, Sep 2011)
This was the second time I traveled with adventure life. I would do it over and over again without thinking twice !! Everything is organized perfectly :) It was a bit tiring in the fact that we changed a lot of hotels but I think there's no other way to see as much of this beautiful country !! You are great guys !!

Patricia Lucke (Easter Island + Panoramic Peru + Cruise on Manatee + Cruise on Eric, Letty & Flamingo, Jan 2011)
tour guides were super--Daniel in Quito area, Carlos in Lima to Puno, Vidal in Cusco area, Daniella on Easter Island; plus guide-naturalists on the Letty and guide on the Manatee were super; in Sacha Lodge guide was very knowledgeable.

to me food is not very important on a trip ; however the food at Sacha lodge was excellent and the food elsewhere was fine; in the high altitudes of Peru my appetite was reduced.

Couple of suggestions: in Quito area I read in the Lonely Planet I was carrying that Cotopaxi and the Quilotoa loop were highly rated. so the last two days in Quito area I modified our itinerary and went there with a night stay at La Ceinga Country Home-- fantastic ending to the 3 weeks I had in Ecuador. I think AdventureLife should recommend those places to people,. I went to BellaVista earlier which I enjoyed, but if I had not later read and then gone to Cotopaxi and Quilotoa loop, I would have missed out. That is more important and exciting to see than BellaVista, in my opinion. Second, when I got into Lima at night I called the representative to find out when our guide and the bus left the next day. Millagros said Adventure Life should have known and been able to state in the itinerary the time which was at 12:30 pm. Ecuador had excellent diversity--8 days Gallapagos, 7 days Quito and surrounding area, and 7 days the Amazon Basin, Rio Napo ... Read All

Inca Pathways - Machu Picchu & Lake Titicaca

Leona Keltner (Inca Pathways + Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Jun 2010)
This Adventure was absolutely the best. I felt bad that other tour groups were not with Adventure Life. I watched them and it seemed as if they were going from from Point A to Point B not understanding the history. the culture, or the purpose of what they were seeing. The first part of our tour with "Edgar Tours" was fun and well organized. One group member was suffering from Altitude Sickness headaches and I was touched by their concern. Our guide for Cuzco and the Inca Trail (Ayul Acuna Cardenas) was the BEST! He is well educated, patient, has a great sense of humor and really was the key to making our Inca Trail HIke a Life Experience and not just a tour. This is the the type of experience that helps people understand the world, and left me wondering what I can do to make this planet a better place to live.

Paul Moroney (Inca Pathways, Aug 2009)
Marco Palomino Tocre was fabulous. I couldn't have hand picked a better guide. It was like having a close friend guide us around Peru.

I have dreamed about this trip for 10 years and, dispite those pent up expectations, the tour delivered more than I imagined. Very rewarding experience. Great diversity of experiences for a "packaged" tour. The family stay on Amantaní Island was a wonderful cultural experience and the island sunset rivals any Caribbean island. Last but not least, the small group sizes offered by Adventure Life made a huge difference. I saw other tours on the Inca Trail with 15 to 20 people and if we were in such a group, we would never know all the things we would have missed out on. The personal touch provided in a small group is priceless.

Nathan Packard (Inca Pathways + Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Dec 2008)
Our tour guide for the Inca Trail (Teddy) was excellent. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and had a great sense of humor. Teddy is the best tour guide I have ever met.

We really enjoyed our trip to Peru and are thinking of taking another trip with Adventure Life.

Marilyn Bowden (Inca Pathways, Apr 2008)
Teddy Romero could not have been better! He was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and was able to get us through some problems because of his contacts and experience.

The food was delicious. The chef on the trek even fixed our requests: avocados, popcorn, and fresh ground coffee!

The adventures were unexpected and awesome! The different cultures at Lake Titicaca were an educational experience we had not anticipated. We felt like we had gone back in time several hundred years to see how these amazing people live. And they were all very hospitible and fun-loving. The actual reason for booking this trip was to hike the Incan Trail, and that was also more fun than we expected. The physical challenge of the hike took a back seat to the beautiful vegetation and the incredible ruins along the trail. And Teddy never hurried us along - we could leisurely enjoy the discoveries along the way. We did not expect such great gourmet meals on the trail, either. The other amazing bonus to this trip was having Teddy Romero all to ourselves! The personalized service we received has spoiled us for any large group trips we might othewise have considered in the future!

Ancient Kingdoms

Brian Ivey (Ancient Kingdoms, Feb 2009)
It is difficult to praise this programme too highly - both for content and for organization, the latter being totally seamless. The guides in Chiclayo, Trujillo and Cusco/Machu Picchu were excellent, were informative, fluent in English, and patient inasmuchas we never felt hurried at any of the museums or archaeological sites that we visited and our questions were answered completely to our satisfaction at all times. We had arranged an extra day in Lima, after our travel day, which gave us a chance to visit two major museums there - the Larco Museum and the National Museum of Archaeology, both of which were thoroughly worthwhile and which should be recommended to future Peru Adventure clients. We would like to express our thanks to every one of the Adventure Life team for a truly superb holiday which we shall never forget. Brian and Alison Ivey, Ottawa, Canada

Cachiccata Trek - Alternative Inca Trail

Shauna Adams (Cachiccata Trek, Sep 2012)
Epic trip. Gorgeous country. I didn't understand why we weren't getting more details on the trip before we left because I didn't understand the leeway of the guide. I understand now. Loved the hiking challenges and the opportunity to see how Peruvians live.

Karen Ross (Cachiccata Trek, Sep 2012)
Juan was a wonderful guide. He was very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. On our trek, we always felt safe and well taken care of. Our Lima contact for the trip helped resolve a couple of minor issues. The food on the trek was wonderful. Our cooks did an amazing job. Thanks for the meal included at Inka Terra. That was a nice treat.

Adventure Life is a great company to work with. Our group felt well supported throughout our Adventure. Any questions and issues were answered in a timely manner. We all felt that the trip was an incredible bargain for what we were able to see and do. Thank you for making this the trip of a lifetime for all ten of us.

Renee Hull (Cachiccata Trek, Sep 2012)
The tour was a trip of a lifetime for me. The people of Peru are amazing, the scenery unsurpassed, the knowledgable guides made the trip interesting. The food was more than I had hoped for! Juan was knowledgeable, patient with 10 women, kind and very upbeat. Everyone we encountered was fabulous! I loved it!

Clyyne Cook (Cachiccata Trek, Sep 2012)
Entire trip was wonderful. Way more than expected. I would highly recommend this adventure. I loved Peru!

Greg Litten (Cachiccata Treck + Peru Amazon, Jun 2011)
We had the Cachittata 4-day trek. What an amazing and humbling adventure - and not for the reasons printed on any brochure. On the second morning of the trek, my wife and I woke up at 12,500 feet to the first winter snow there in five years. Without crampons and proper winter gear we weren't going to continue the rest of the trek, or risk anyones neck to go higher. So, we turned back with our lead guide and started a slipperly climb back below snowline. As we decended past mountian tops and Incan ruins covered in fresh snow, we treked with Perivian mountain villagers. They wore little more than a shirt, pocho, wool shorts and sandles for covering as they herded their sheep in the cold muck. Our journey 5,000ft down to the valley floor ended up being by foot, and then by bouncing in the back of a covered truck with a dozen locals taking their produce of herbs to market.

Little did we know, as we were hiking out if the snow, our pack llamas had escaped the wranglers. Llamas do what llamas do... they ran up the 14,500 foot mountain pass! So, our llamas still had the camping gear and the poors wranglers felt they had no choice but to chase them (in sandals and shorts) in the deepening snow. This was the same mountain pass we had decided to not go over. It was surreal and humbling twelve-hours later to be reunited with the llama wrangers who had just ... Read All

Incas and Rainforest - Machu Picchu & Amazon

Tuan Tran (Incas and Rainforest + Machu Picchu Pilgrimage, Oct 2010)
We saw, learned and experienced so much. The trek was rough but your staff did everything in their power to help us through. Everybody, at every step, worked together and created a trip of life time for the 5 of us. Marco was our guide from from Puno through the Inca Trail and back to Cuzco. He was our coach, photographer, historian, archeologist, doctor, therapist, camping/hiking instructor... and our best buddy. Monika and Laura have been great and the package is full of valuable information.

Christopher White (Incas and Rainforest, Jul 2010)
Machu Picchu was impressive but I thought the ruins along the trail and in the Sacred Valley were actually more impressive. I was particularly impressed with the ruins of the fort above Cusco. I would suggest doing some resistance training in addition to hiking prior to the trip. I think it would have eased the ache in my shoulders from carrying the pack.

All the guides were very good. Alex, our guide on the Inca trail was one of the two best guides I have ever had for any guided trip I have ever taken.

I was surprised at how good the food was, I would have settled for the freeze dried stuff or surplus MRE's. I really didn't expect them to actually cook.

Cathy Smith (Incas and Rainforest, Dec 2008)
both reuben in the amazon and teddy in cusco and the inca trail were wonderful. we loved teddy. he is friendly and so knowledgeable. an amazing person and man.

Manu Biosphere

Cathy Bach (Machu Picchu by Train + Manu Biosphere, Aug 2011)
We were very worried about taking an organized tour. We have traveled all over the world and never done a tour before. But it was so wonderful. All 3 of our guides we had were absolutely fabulous. They had encyclopedic knowledge of their areas. The 2 guides with Inca Natura (Manu) (Enrique and Fiorella) were fabulous. And Ayul for the Machu Picchu by Train trip was also absolutely fantastic. We were so happy with the overall quality of the tour. There's really nothing I would suggest to change!!

Brian Hazlett (Machu Picchu by Train + Manu Biosphere, Aug 2011)
We really appreciated the small group size. Actually, the tours were much more than we expected. We had been worried about doing an organized tour, and we were pleasantly surprised at how well it worked out. The level of knowledge of all of the guides far exceeded our expectations. We were very impressed!

Susan Marycz (Manu Biosphere + Machu Picchu by Train Tour, Sep 2008)
We had two guides - Boris Bonnett and Miguel (don't know last name - at Manu); I cannot say enough about Boris; as a native of Cusco, he was extremely knowledgeable about the city and all of the towns we visited in the area; his depth and breadth of knowledge were impressive; he was very patient as I asked many questions not only about the subject at hand, but about other aspects of the country; as our guide to Machu Picchu, he was exceptional; his interest in and respect for the Incas was obvious; he gave us recommendations for restaurants and every one we tried was excellent; he was generous with his time and knowledge; Boris is an excellent ambassador for Peru; we have been to many countries and traveled with many guides - he ranks at the top of our experiences. Miguel was also very knowledgeable and it was a joy to walk through the jungle with him; his ability to see and hear things that we initially could not was remarkable; he taught us much about jungle discoveries; he had a wonderful sense of humor, which kept us laughing.

The food varied depending on where we ate; for the most part, the food on the first part of our trip, with Boris as our guide, was quite good as he knew all the good places to go; the food in the Amazon was also good, surprising for being so remote.

I would recommend this trip to others, and already have; it was a wonderful ... Read All

Salcantay Trek

Jim Sullivan (Salcantay Trek, Oct 2012)
Over the top WONDERFUL. Each place exceeded our expectations and the food in the accomodations was excellent. Very cool!!

Elizabeth Buyers (Salcantay Trek, May 2009)
Boris was OUTSTANDING!! He made our trip totally incredible. He rearranged our hiking schedule when he noticed we were fast hikers and took us to some incredible places that were not originally scheduled. His knowledge of all things Peruvian was astonishing. My brother likes to ask at least 100 questions a day and Boris had the answer to all of them. He pointed out all kinds of plants and wildlife along our trek. He did an excellent job taking us to the less touristy places and really gave us the authentic Peru experience.

Wild Tambopata - Amazon Tours

Christian Delvoie (Machu Picchu by Train + Mancora Beach + Wild Tambopata, Sep 2012)
All three guides (Cusco/MC; Manu and Tambopata were excellent and very attention-ate. We recommend them highly. Pick ups were good, but avanced notice through the previous guides would help, as we were transiting from group to group. Briefing in Cusco from the Manu people was very good. Extremely satisfied with the tour overall. We will recommend you.

Jeanne Hennessy (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage + Wild Tambopata, May 2012)
Our first experience with Adventure Life. Erin was most of all patient and courteous to me while planning this two-week adventure. She was able to come up with alternatives when I had difficulty planning out the entire two weeks. Always pleasant. We felt special because of it throughout the trip. Our arrangements at our pricepoint were more than adequate; and we loved the special treatment due to our small number. We never felt confused or alone in a far away place because we had the assurance of our guide wherever we went; and it was easy to learn to trust him. Because the Adventure Life guide in the Cusco area was local and very familiar with the entire area and terrain, we were prepared for every next turn of our itinerary with no unpleasant surprises.....just good surprises!

The country of Peru is a cultural and picturesque collage with history lessons throughout. The trip into the Amazon Rainforest was quite the adventure as well, although I did miss those Andes mountains and Cusco. However, the jungle stay gave us yet another look at the country and if we had missed it, the picture of Peru would not have been complete since so much of Peru is jungle. Well, this was an adventure to remember.

Inca Trail

Loye Howell (Machu Picchu Pilgrimage Custom, Dec 2012)
I loved it. It couldn't have been better. Everything was perfect. Exceeded my expectations.

Machu Picchu by Train

Farhad Kashani (Machu Picchu by Train, Oct 2011)
Peru was my 103rd country and region visited and i am counting on you for some of the other 97 I want to do.

David Cheng (Machu Picchu by Train, Dec 2010)
The Machu Picchu extension tour was great for taking care of the essential logistics -- lodging, getting to/from airport and machu picchu, and having a guide for machu picchu itself. I thought it suited my style perfectly of wanting flexibility to explore the area on my own, but making sure I had a great guide so didn't miss anything for the highlight.

Cachiccata Group Service Project with Machu Picchu

Candelaria Festival in Puno with Homestay

Dahlia Hirsch (Guatemala Classico + Candelaria Festival in Puno with Homestay, Feb 2011)
I want you to know how pleased we were, from the beginning to the end of our tour with you. You tailored it to our needs, and the land part of Peru that we did with you was really seamless. Our tour guide was fabulous - personable, educated, caring, prompt, and flexible. His English was great, he really knew the area and the festivities well, and went out of his way to accommodate our every need. We had a phenomenal time mostly because of his wonderful care. The hotel was in a great location for the festivities. The breakfast was very nice and the front desk people were extremely helpful, even providing us with oxygen for our altitude challenges. I want to also thank you for your patience in answering all my questions before the trip- it was exactly as I expected and even better. Many thanks.

Manco Multisport

Justin Henkel (Manco Multisport + Lake Titcaca, Sep 2012)
Vidal was absolutely amazing as guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He really was able to craft the trip in some areas to avoid the crowds, such as in Macchu Pichu we were really able to get almost a personal experience of the area. Everywhere we went he was able to talk in great detail about the history and culture.

Douglas Bridges (Manco Multisport, Jul 2010)
Our guides, Juan and Marco, were excellent, and both were very knowledgeable. Cooks and porters were outstanding. I've never seen two people work as hard as William and Aurelio worked to accommodate us during the camping days. I would highly recommend both.

Any suggestions for my next trip? I usually schedule a couple per year, but intentionally waited to schedule my second one until after my first experience with you. I looked at the website again and I have a couple of thoughts: I haven't been to Nicaragua, but I have been to all other destinations in Central America. I haven't been to Bolivia either, and one of the lodge trips may also interest me at some point. Please let me know if you have suggestions. The Manco Multisport trip offered the right level of physical activity, variety, etc., so something similar would be appealing. And the culture shock factor is not an issue for me. Thanks!

Melissa Sachs-Kohen (Manco Multisport, Jul 2009)
We particularly liked the hotel in Ollyantatambo for its dedication to being green.

Gabriel, from Sandoval Lake, was excellent. He was so knowledgeable about the wildlife and plantlife in the jungle. Vidal was a fantastic tourguide. His English was great, he knew so much about history, culture, politics, anthropology, etc. He made every stop a wonderfully engaging learning experience. Everyone was so helpful and pleasant, even when they had to carry our big packs from Hydroelectica to Aguas Calientas due to the trainworkers' strike. Our cook Victor was terrific. He was very accommodating to the vegetarians in our group too.

Our adventure tour was full of adventures - some of them were not even planned. The strike forced us to walk the train tracks from Hydroelectrica to Aguas Calientas - in the dark. Luckily we knew no train would come. Although we were already exhausted from having climbed Yacta Pata that same day, it was something we will always remember, complain about and ultimately laugh about too. Every worker with whom we came in contact was friendly and helpful. We learned a bit of Spanish, tasted some new and delicious foods and had the experience of a lifetime. Thank you.

Jonathan Wilson (Manco Multisport, Jul 2008)
I can't imagine doing the first part of the trip with anyone besides our guide, Boris Bennett. He was excellent.

I try not to go into these things with a lot of defined expectations, but the trip certainly exceeded any I may have set. Really enjoyed the adventure and was very surprised at the level of physical activity. That was our only concern going in, that it might be too easy, but that certainly was not the case and that was half the fun. The views are always a little better after a hard climb to the top (or bottom in the case of the mountain biking).

Overall everything was great. Especially liked the flexibility of our trip. We were able to change things as we went along that allowed us to fit in, or omit, portions of the trip on the fly. In the Colca Canyon, we were able to fit in an impromptu mountain bike trip from Patapampa to Chivay on trails that were extremely fun and challenging. Our guide helped us set all of it up.
