See the best of this region's culture, history, and landscapes on your exciting trip.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive in Caollo. Embark Le Boreal around 5:30 PM. Settle into your cabin and familiarize yourself with the ship and her crew.
Day 2: Callao, Peru / Lima
Spend your first day exploring this Peruvian gem on one of three optional half-day excursions. Get a feel for colonial and modern Lima on a guided walking tour that takes you through the Main Square, as well as several historic stops before returning to the ship by coach. You can also visit one of Lima's premier attractions, the Gold Museum, which features golden artifacts from the Inca and colonial periods, as well as the Miraflores Indian Market where you can browse handicrafts from all over Peru. Alternately, visit the Pachacamac ruins, about 30km south of Lima. Situated in the Lurin valley, the temples and artifacts found here are indicators of the Pre-colombian culture that flourished in this region.
Day 3: At Sea
Continue to acquaint yourself with the ship as you sail the open seas. Get settled in, explore your ship, or spend time on deck looking for marine wildlife or birdlife.
Day 4: Matarani, Peru / Arequipa
From Matarani, opt to visit Arequipa on an optional full-day excursion. Arequipa, Peru's second largest town, was founded in 1540 and boasts numerous colonial-style mansions, churches and remarkable convents. At 7660 ft. above sea level, Arequipa is located in a truly awe-inspiring setting, dominated by three volcanoes: El Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. It is known locally as the “White City” because most of its buildings were constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries out of soft, bright white volcanic rock extracted from nearby quarries.
A coach brings you on the 2.5 hour journey to Arequipa. From here, explore on foot to discover the historic gems within this city frozen in time.
Day 5: Arica, Chile
From your port in Arica, choose from several full- and half-day excursions.
Living the Highland Ancestors takes you to an altitude of 9600 ft as you visit Copaquilla Pukara, an archealogical site; Putre, the region's capital; and Socoroma village, once part of the famed Inca road.
City Tour & Geoglyphs which takes you to the beautiful Azapa Valley where you can catch a glimpse of centuries-old geoglyphs and to the San Miguel de Azapa Archeological and Anthropological Museum well known for its collection of artifacts and remains of the oldest Chinchorro mummies dating to 6,000-8,000 BC.
The Chinchorro Culture tour takes you on a drive past the scenic Chinchorro beach, where mummified human remains were unearthed from the sand. Stop at Las Machas Beach to observe the wetland birdlife before a visit to the San Migues de Azapa Archeological and Anthropological Museum. End this tour with a visit to the On-Site Museum in downtown Arica - an "in situ" museum where the mummies discovered here remain today.
Atacama Coastal Walk takes you by coach slowly past the beautiful views of the El Laucho and La Lisera beach resorts. Have your camera ready for a stop at the Morro de Arica outlook. Continue south along the coast to Carazones/Anzata where your coastal walk begins. Wind through caves, caverns, and other spectacular sites as you make your way toward the Puntilla where sea lions can be see at a short distance.
Day 6: At Sea

Day 7: Pain de Sucre / Caldera / Bahia Inglesa, Chile
Spend the morning on the ship as it navigates Pain de Sucre. In the afternoon, your optional excursions both begin in Caldera. Tour the city's historical sights and beaches. Begin at the historical Railway Station, a National Monument, then continue on the southern coast toward the summer resort town of Bahia Inglesa where you can explore on your own before returning to Caldera.
Alternatively, live an unique experience today by visiting the San Jose Mine, where the 33 Chilean miners stayed trapped underground for 69 days in 2010. Visit the Interpretation Center, learning about this accident through photos, writings and short videos. Additionally, one of the 33 miners is available to reply to questions about this incredible experience.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
