Day 1 Yichang - On Board the Yangzi Explorer
Embark M.S Yangzi Explorer for your cruise to Yichang. After settling into your cabin and relaxing over dinner, enjoy a documentary film onboard about the Three Gorges Dam Project, the world's largest engineering project. The ship will set sail on its upstream course the following morning through the Three Gorges region.
Day 2 Xiling Gorges & Three Gorges Dam Project
Start your morning with a traditional Chinese exercise, learning from a certified Tai Chi master. The ship will set sail and pass through the longest of the gorges, Xiling Gorge, one of the most memorable passages on the Yangzi River. Return to the Yangzi Explorer for a session on the art of tea appreciation.
Day 3 Shennong Stream Excursion/Qutang Gorge/Wu Gorge
Disembark from the ship at Badong and transfer to a local longboat poled by Tujia boatmen. Immerse yourself in unrivaled crystalline waters, rich forest and towering rock formations and catch a glimpse at several species of endangered flora and fauna including the elusive Golden Hair Monkey and many varieties of medicinal plants. Resume sailing upsteam on the Yangzi and pass through both the Wu Gorge and the Qutang Gorge, with their majestic cliffs and towering peaks.
Day 4 Fengdu/Wanzhou
Enjoy a shore excursion to Fengdu or Wanzhou, two charming river villages noted for their elaborate temples and bustling markets. Mingle with the locals and gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture as you walk the streets of one of China's most remote communities. Back on the Explorer you may participate in several sessions teaching various forms of Chinese art and cuisine.
