Ample trekking trails run along the seaside with views over the coast line and presence of a variety of shore birds. Nearby Chepu is a peaceful rural village with approximately 300 people and houses spread along the road. Their main income comes from the extraction of abalone and farming.
The lodge strives to be 100% completely sustainable through the use of wind & solar energy, reverse osmosis and with electric boats. The lodge sets an example to the neighboring properties who have noticed that tourists prefer ecofriendly tourism and are questioning about the possibility to turn into a more ecosustainable way of life.
Energy for the electric lights comes from the Wind Generator, named "Hank" by visitors. Hot water for the outside showers is provided by the Solar Heater, in cooperation with guests shower schedules, according to the sun harvest and weather conditions. All natural waste is composted. Water is sourced from the water well, natural rain water that has been filtered through the ground.
Electric Kayaks are distinctive to the Ecolodge. Kayaks are moved by batteries which are charged by electricity provided by the wind generator.
