Once you are settled into your room and have explored the lodge, you set off to explore. This afternoon, you will visit the giant sand dunes and polychromatic rock formations of the Valley of the Moon.
After breakfast set out on your adventure by driving to Toconao, a beautiful Andean village. Toconao's lands are an oasis in the desert and are apt for growing fruits and vegetables nourished by water coming in through small channels. Visit its main streets and San Lucas church, then continue to Quebrada de Jerez, a large canyon channelling the waters entering Toconao.
Next stop is Laguna Chaxa, a lagoon in the middle of the Atacama Salt Flat, home to beautiful Chilean and Andean flamingoes. Continue driving towards Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, full of turquoise water that contrasts with the reds and oranges of the Altiplanic lands. A truly incredible landscape, creating an unforgettable memory of the region.
A very early wake-up call from the hotel will be well worth it when you arrive at the amazing Geysers of Tatio to see them in action. From almost 3000 feet (900 meters) below the earth, boiling steam bursts up to 130 feet (40 meters) into the air. This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
