Apurimac Whitewater Rafting
note: For single tent accommodations

The Apurímac River, which means, “speaking God” in Quechua, is an upper tributary world’s largest river system, the Amazon River, and was considered a sacred river by the Incas. During the next four days, we will run numerous Class III and IV rapids in a magnificent gorge. We camp each night on the white sand beaches next to the river, enjoying delicious meals cooked over an open fire.

Day 1 Apurimac River (L,D)
The Apurímac River, which means, “speaking God” in Quechua, is the source of the world’s largest river system, the Amazon River, and was considered a sacred river by the Incas. From Cusco we will drive four hours through the Andes to the river put-in in the village of Naihua. It will take us about two hours to prepare all the equipment and receive our equipment, safety talk, and instructions. After lunch, we begin rafting class III and IV rapids for about 2 hours until we reach our first campsite.
Day 2 Full Day on the Apurimac (B,L,D)
After a healthy breakfast, we will walk around the campsite to admire the vegetation (bromeliads and orchids). We will start our journey with a technical rapid called "Submarine" and many other class IV rapids. After lunch, we will run class III to IV rapids in an amazing white-water granite canyon. After setting the camp, we will have dinner and sleep in a sandy beach under a sky scattered by restless stars.
Day 3 Black Canyon (B,L,D)
Today, our adventure starts early. We will run quite a few class III rapids and then enjoy the most beautiful part of the canyon and its calm waters. We may see river otters, deer, foxes, torrent ducks and tropical Andean birds. Continuing our adventure, we will pass under several suspended bridges along the river and will meet the Santo Tomas River. At noon, we will set camp and have the chance to hike during the afternoon or relax at camp.
Day 4 Grand Finale. Return to Cusco (B,L)
After breakfast we will run class III to IV pool-drop rapids, like "The Other Right" and "3 Condors" among others for an exciting end to this adventure. We will have lunch at the end of our adventure, followed by a five-hour drive to Cusco in our private vehicle.
