Day 1 Istanbul, Turkey / Embark
Embark the L'Austral this afternoon for your cruise of the Aegean Sea.
Day 2 Limnos, Greece
A placid sentry keeping watch over the Dardanelles Straits, Limnos occupies a strategic position at a junction of routes criss-crossing the Aegean Sea. Peaceful and serene, the island lies low with wide open spaces and a coastline untouched by modern tourism. Legend has it that this is where Vulcan the God of Fire lived, so do not be surprised to find works of art forged out of metal, a craft handed down through the ages to today.
Day 3 Sailing past Mount Athos
Cruise past the mythic Mount Athos today, while enjoying the luxurious amenities onboard.
Day 4 Volos, Greece
The city of Volos is the only outlet towards the sea from Thessaly, the country's largest agricultural region. Its port, the third of Greece's major commercial ports, provides a bridge between Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The area that the city of Volos is situated on, was the ancient region of Magnesia, one of the oldest populated corners of the Ancient Helladic land. The first known pre-historic settlements go back to the 7th millennium BC.
Day 5 Patmos, Greece
Known as the “Jerusalem of the Aegean", Patmos is a holy island for Christians and is where St John drafted the Apocalypse. it is also a spectacular island with white sandy beaches in rocky coves and unique landscapes. An impressive silhouette of the crenellated walls of an 11th century monastery stands out against the hills in the center of an island which has retained its traditional architecture.
Day 6 Kusadasi, Turkey
Kusadasi (Turkey) was once a small fishing village and today is one of Turkey’s most famous seaside resorts. Despite a history dating back 3000 to years BC, Kusadasi itself has no ruins. Yet because of its position is an ideal jumping off point for the archaeological site of Ephesus which houses one of the seven wonders of the world, the temple of Artemis.
Day 7 Dikili, Turkey
A small and peaceful port on the shores of the Aegean, Dikili has retained its picturesque charm. From here we head out to explore Pergamum, one of Turkey’s finest archaeological sites, not just because of the many and varied ruins but also for its splendid hilltop location. At one time a serious rival to Alexandria and Rome, Pergamum offers visitors the rich heritage of its architecture in an intimate setting.
Day 8 Istanbul, Turkey / Disembark
Disembark this morning for your continued journey home.
