Voyage across Spitsbergen, the closest island to the North Pole, during this incredible 8-day Arctic Cruise on the luxury vessel ship, Le Boreal! During your journey, join an expert team of naturalist-guides in discovering the Norwegian coastline as you sail between magnificent icecaps, fjords, icebergs, and glaciers while watching for Arctic wildlife.
Highlights
Sail through the incredible scenery of steep fjords and massive glaciers
Climb the Gullybreen glacier if weather permits
Hike and watch wildlife in Northwest National Park
Visit Ny Alesund, starting point for many major Arctic expeditions
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Spend the day admiring and exploring the breathtaking panorama surrounding Bellsund Fjord. As you pass the steep fjords and massive glaciers, follow the steps of the first Norwegian explorers to traverse the archipelago. The two arms of the fjord open into two green valleys that are home to beluga whales, puffins, bearded seals, and polar bears. Bellsund Fjord provides a naturally wild and dazzling background that perfectly displays the beauty of the Arctic summer.
As you sail towards the ice floe, enter Magdalena Bay, where you encounter the magnificent Gullybreen, a glacier you may have the opportunity to climb. Then join the team of naturalists in watching for walruses and other marine mammals.
Journey across the fjord, glacier and beach-filled islands of Northwest National Park, where Willhelm Barentz first landed on Svalbard in 1596. Spend the day hiking and enjoying the natural delights and wildlife that live in the park.
Ny Alesund is a fascinating former mining town that has transitioned into a scientific base. The town was founded in 1916, and was a departure point for many Arctic expeditions, including those led by the famous Roald Amundsen. Be sure to check out the Ny Alesund's famous Post Office - it's considered to be the most northerly on the globe!
After visiting the town, sail to Cross Fjord, which is beautifully made up of plutonic rocks and tundra. Take advantage of the light of the Midnight Sun to admire the flowers that cover the Arctic mountain sides at the heart of the fourteen alpine glaciers that make up Cross Fjord. Be sure to keep a look out for the many wildlife species that live on and around the remote fjord.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
