Today you get the opportunity to ride the Balinese waves! Prepare yourself for a surf lesson - your first introduction to the country. Learn the basics of catching waves: understanding the surf, positioning, paddling, control, and standing up. Essential ocean safety tips and easy-to-follow instructions allow you to enjoy the thrill of surfing.
Enjoy your afternoon at leisure.
Prepare to have an extraordinary day! Meet your guide in the morning and head to the world-famous Jatiluwih. This World Heritage Site is a living museum showcasing the island's traditional methods of agriculture. See how clever land utilization and cooperative use of water and other resources turns vertical hillsides into lush, 'postcard' rice paddies.
Arrive at your hotel in Munduk later this afternoon.
Start your tour with a 1-hour buggy drive uphill, passing the Devil Rocks as your initiation drive today. Then, cycle downhill via a dirt road to the foot of the hill where the 4WD Land Rover awaits. The downhill cycling takes about 30-45 minutes. If you choose not to cycle, you can continue to drive the buggy until the next session with a 4WD Land Rover.
After changing into a 4WD Land Rover, you will be driven via dirt roads, through hill areas, passing some villages, and up to the foot of Mt Batukaru, where you visit the sacred mountain temple. You can take the opportunity to meditate here or just relax. The local priest (Pemangku) blesses guests who enter this temple with holy water (subject to his presence at that time). A sarong is provided. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route, then continue in your 4WD Land Rover towards the Pupuan region, known for its beautiful rice terraces.
Your guide takes you on a rice terrace walk and during this short walk, introduces and explains about some other flora that grows locally. On the way back to the Munduk Wilderness base camp, you make one final stop at the Haunted Valley Waterfall. A fifteen-minute downhill walk is required to reach this picturesque waterfall, and we recommend you take a refreshing swim here.
Return to your hotel and settle in for a lovely evening.
This morning, you meet your private guide and driver and head to the small fishing village of Pemuteran. Just off the coast lies the island of Menjangan, which offers some of Indonesia’s best snorkeling, with clear waters and few currents. The island and surrounding coral gardens are part of Bali’s only national park: Bali Barat. Here, the endangered Bali Sparrow lives, and captured birds are released back into the park in certain places.
You have the opportunity to bathe at the sacred hot springs 'Air Panas' of Banjar. These springs are set in the midst of the forest in a beautifully landscaped tropical garden. Relax in the warm, sulphuric water that originates from nearby volcanoes as you take in the scenery.
After soaking in the hot springs, visit the Buddhist monastery. Pass through the village of Dencarik to the neighboring Banjar Tegeha, home of the splendid Buddhist Brahma Arama Vihara. This monastery plays a central role in Buddhist religious life and education in Bali. Opened in 1971, it replaced the former monastery of Banjar. The structure combines architectural and iconographic elements found throughout the Buddhist world. Quiet, cool and set high in the hills, it commands a fantastic view over the ocean.
Later this late afternoon arrive at your lovely beach resort.
Today meet your guide for a short boat trip to Menjangan island where you can enjoy the best snorkeling in Bali! Swim the crystal-clear waters among colorful corals teeming with tropical fish. Break for lunch on the boat and then perhaps do more snorkeling, if time allows. Upon return to the mainland you are dropped off at the resort with the evening at your leisure.
This morning your driver meets you for your trip to Ubud. Enjoy a scenic drive along the lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. Arrive at the mountain resort area of Bedugul, nestled on the shores of Lake Bratan. This giant lake fills a crater that was formed thousands of years ago by seismic blasts of a volcano! Dense pine forests cover the slopes of Mount Bratan all the way down to the calm shore. Holy shrines dot the shoreline - the largest and most spectacular of these is the peaceful water temple of Ulun Danu.
Your journey today continues to the small village of Candikuning, situated above the southern shores of Lake Bratan. Wander through the village's daily market. The market may be small, but it is extremely diverse and colorful. It offers a vast range of fresh fruit, local spices and plants, including orchids.
Go on a leisurely bike tour down small secondary roads around Ubud today. Along the way, your guide points out local plants and explains the way of life during stops. Close to Ubud you can choose to either continue on your bike for another hour through beautiful scenery, or be taken by car to your lunch spot. Arrive at a small restaurant set among the rice fields for a delicious Balinese lunch. After your leisurely meal, return to your hotel for an afternoon to spend how you wish!
We invite you to witness Ubud at its golden hour of dawn! Join us on our favorite morning walk, which starts at 5.30 AM. The route takes you through the Ubud market, village lanes, fields and forest. After witnessing a scenic sunrise and herons taking flight, enjoy a light breakfast in a farmer's hut high up in the rice fields north of Ubud! Here, youcan sit a while and soak in the morning ambiance. Descending through the rice fields back into the growing town of Ubud, pass by the Monkey Forest and end up at a spot for a cup of coffee and a spa treatment.
Many of the sights on this walk are very picturesque, but we do warn that you also see the unattractive side of Ubud's rampant development. We invite you to join the discussion on how to keep Ubud's tourism sustainable. After this morning walk you have time to relax with unique massage therapy at the ARMA resort followed by a delightful lunch at their Thai restaurant. Breakfast and lunch included with this option.

Some of the most intimate ways of seeing Bali are through people interactions and learning about the island's world-renowned art forms. We invite you to join us on a memorable trip to the soul of the island. By spending time with local artists in their personal homes and workshops, we open the door to a world that is normally hidden from travelers. Anyone can buy an art piece in a showroom, but meeting and observing the masters themselves is a truly unique experience! You have the opportunity to meet local maestros and then have an early dinner with a host family in a real Balinese home. Breakfast and dinner included with this option.
**Please let your Trip Planner know which you prefer at the time of your reservation confirmation.
Today, you will meet your driver and guide and transfer to Pandang Bai and take the fast boat to Lombok. Upon arrival at Senggigi harbor, you will be met by our guide and transferred to your hotel in Tanjung.
Today take a traditional Lombok cooking class in Waroeng Tugu. This is a unique experience that showcases hundreds of years of traditions! Experience the humble beauty, as well as the exotic richness of Indonesian dining and cooking. The class begins with a visit to a traditional market where you are submerged into the daily way of life in Lombok. Choose the recipes that interest you most before learning to prepare them. The finale is a Waroeng dinner experience: eating with your hands in the open kitchen among oil lamps, stone grinders, and traditional steamers on wood-fire terracotta stoves. A meal to remember!
Today enjoy a snorkeling excursion around the islands of Gili. A Tugu Lombok private boat takes you to these three small, coral-fringed islands - Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. Each island boasts beautifully clear water, coral reefs, and brilliantly colored fish. These islands have become popular among travelers for the simple pleasures of sun, snorkeling, diving, and socializing.
Afterwards, you are taken back to your hotel to enjoy a one hour, authentic Balinese massage to relax and re-energize!
Day 14: Departure to Denpasar

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
