Day 1: Arrive Puerto Montt / Embark on the Atmosphere

Welcome to the marina in the afternoon for check-in, induction, and boarding of the M/V Atmosphere. Take some time to settle into your cabin and explore the ship. Depart this evening from Puerto Montt, with views of the magnificent Osorno, Calbuco, and Tronador volcanoes filled with late lavender daylight, while sailing throughout the north head of the pristine Ancud Gulf. Scenic views of the whole southern area, which will be Atmosphere's course during the following days, will complete a spectacular wildlife adventure journey.

The below itinerary is a sample only, as each day your Captain will assess where the best wildlife opportunities are available. This program delivers each guest a piece of Patagonia’s natural beauty and considers bird and whale watching--and, of course, nature photography!--as one of the main activities, complemented by outdoors expeditions such as rafting, trekking (including a helicopter airlift to specific areas of interest), horseback riding, jet-boating excursions, air-borne sightseeing, and river and sea kayaking.

Day 2: Auchemo Island Bay

Wake up at Auchemo Island Bay, with northern views of Puntiagudo and its emerald blue glaciers as well as the steep granite walls of the Andes mountain range that here abruptly fall into the fjords. Take your first ride in the helicopter on your way to the remote Patagonian wilderness. Enjoy trekking to nearby glaciers, volcanoes, and lagoons, bird-watching in the high altitude forest, and tasting spectacular on-site glacier cocktails and meals. You'll also have the chance to do some sea kayaking through the lush channels and hidden fjords, watching for wildlife such as the endemic dolphins, sea lions, and sea birds. Return to the Atmosphere in the evening, and look for bird life, such as the albatross, as you enjoy the sunset from the deck.

Day 3: Tic Toc Bay

Wake up at Tic Toc's sheltered bay, surrounded by northern views of the magnificent Corcovado volcano and its majestic and untouched national park. Today you have the opportunity to do some coastal kayaking within this protected bay, followed by rafting the local river and some of its tributaries. You'll enjoy more than an exciting adventure as you experience the foreignness of a cool jungle's flora and fauna. Discover unique cormorant species nesting in caves and native flightless ducks paddling through the water. The helicopter is available to transport you to nearby glaciers for trekking, hiking, and landscape nature photography.

Day 4: Ventisquero Sound

After sailing through narrow fjords, wake up at one of the many bays of Ventisquero Sound. Take a Zodiac Hurricane sailing trip through a strait with dramatic landscapes, and head to the long sound at Magdalena Island National Park. At a beach surrounded by clear waters, prepare the kayaks to visit a gorgeous waterfall, continuing on to seek out the exotic Patagonian wildlife - dolphins, sea lions, and myriad bird species. In the evening, relax tired muscles in one of the area's many breath-taking natural hot springs.

Day 5: Guaitecas Archipelago

Wake up at the Guaitecas Archipelago with its surprising biological diversity and an ecosystem consisting of hundreds of magical islands. You will have fabulous views of the Moraleda Channel and the steep Andes mountains to the east. Spend the day exploring this unique ecosystem, looking for offshore seabirds, kayaking into a fjord, enjoying a sumptuous lunch on a hidden beach, and visiting a wildlife-rich wetland. There may also be a chance to take a helicopter flight over this beautiful landscape, so you can see the archipelago, islands, and hidden bays and estuaries from above.

Day 6: Comau Fjord

Wake up in one the bays within the historic Comau Fjord (also known as Leptepu Fjord), with calm waters lapping against sheer mountain cliffs. Begin the day with a trip in a Zodiac Hurricane, touring the fjords and their multiple bays, discovering hidden spots used by ancient sailors, and walk in the spectacular native fuchsia forest, surrounded by thousands of hummingbirds.

Back at the Atmosphere, take a short kayak trip through the calm waters of the fjord or choose the adventure of a whitewater rafting trip. End the day by relaxing in nearby natural hot springs with your favorite drink while the Atmosphere's talented staff prepares one last exquisite dinner.

Day 7: Puerto Montt / Disembark / Return Home

Arrive early in Puerto Montt Bay, anchoring there at first daylight. Disembark and connect to flights home or continue with your South American adventures.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
