Explore some of the less traveled, most beautiful and pristine areas of Southeastern Alaska during this unique 9-day cruise on the Island Spirit. This incredible voyage allows travelers to experience areas of the Alaskan Wilderness by kayak, foot, from the ship and possibly by zip line!

Day 1

    Juneau

Arrive in Juneau and transfer downtown. Have lunch on your own before touring the Alaska State Museum. In the evening, meet the crew and fellow shipmates on the boat for cocktails, dinner and a short evening cruise passing Sum Dum Glacier and anchoring in Sanford Cove.

    Day 2

      Alaskan Wilderness

Spend the day whale watching and cruising towards Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier (an active Tidewater glacier). Here you can soak in breathtaking views of the glaciers and see harbor seals with their young pups. Then, the ship enters Fords Terror, one of Alaska's most scenic and pristine canyons that is not seen by many people. Be sure to keep an eye out for brown bears along the shore!

      Day 3

        Fords Terror

Continue the journey around the wonderful wilderness area of Fords Terror, which is protected under the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy the views of the swirling rapids and sheer cliff faces that the area is famous for. A U.S. forest service ranger may lead a discussion about the beautiful fjord. Take the rest of the day to kayak, take skiff rides, and explore the remarkable wilderness area. Enjoy the evening relaxing in a quiet anchorage.

        Day 4

          Kake

Spend the morning in the native village of Kake, to visit a local hatchery and watch for black bears feeding on salmon in the gorgeous streams. Cruise to a different wilderness anchorage in the afternoon.

          Day 5

            Chatham Strait

Spend the day cruising through Chatham Strait, where you can search for Dalls porpoises, orcas and humpback whales. You may even see a killer whale! Take the afternoon to kayak, take an interpretive walk with the Naturalist and cruise to the Captain's anchorage of choice.

            Day 6

              Tenakee Springs

Spend the morning cruising in Chatham Strait, then travel to the truly unique community of Tenakee Springs, population 128! The local residents spend their summers here to avoid the big ships and big tourist towns. Take the afternoon and stroll among the waterfront homes, visit the mercantile (founded in 1899) and enjoy a snack at the friendly bakery while chatting with the locals. This community is truly a jewel in the wilderness.

              Day 7

                Icy Strait Point

In the morning, explore the town of Hoohah, Icy Strait Point. It was historically an active fishing cannery, but has since been renovated to showcase the local native culture and entertainment. Before leaving port, you may have the opportunity to try the longest zip line in the United States!

                Day 8

                  Alaskan Wilderness

Spend your final morning at sea kayaking and skiff riding in a quiet bay. In the afternoon, begin the journey back to Juneau.

                  Day 9

                    Disembark / Return Home

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flights home.
