Le Boreal invites you to cruise, in addition to the West coast, the East coast of Greenland, setting sail for a 15-day 5-star polar expedition from Reykjavik to Kangerlussuaq. In the company of naturalists and experienced guides, discover the multiple facets of these wild regions. You will come under the spell of the natural beauty of Iceland with its exceptional geology, a blend of geysers, waterfalls and glaciers.

Day 1

    Embark in Reykjavik, Iceland

Embarkation in Reykjavik (Iceland) in the evening. Overnight in port.

    Day 2

      Reykjavik

This cruise takes you to the very heart of Greenland in the footsteps of great explorers like Paul Emile Victor who left France to study this land in the fifties. Discover an extreme land which is home to eight species of whales, two million seals, walruses, reindeer and an amazing variety of seabirds.

      Day 3

        Crossing the Denmark Detroit

        At Sea.

        Day 4

          Fjord Knud Rasmussen, Greenland

          Port details pending.

          Day 5

            Ammassalik, Greenland

Set sail for Ammassalik and cruise in the wake of Captain Jean- Baptiste CHARCOT’s famous ship, the Pourquoi Pas, which cast off from this island on 11 July 1934 with four renowned scientists on board, including Paul Emile VICTOR, ethnologist and mission leader. This island with its wild and unpredictable coastline captivated the explorers and, after their initial experience, they decided to extend their journey to the heart of the Inuit communities.

            Day 6

              Sermilik, Greenland

Practically unknown until 100 years ago, the East coast of Greenland remains the most authentic and majestic part of the Island. These days, this little-known location is the largest National Park in the world. The route taken by LE BORÉAL will allow you to discover the Sermilik Fjord or “Iceberg Trail”, with vast expanses of ice as a backdrop. Some Summers, the majestic humpback whales take up residence in this fjord. At this time, the ice recedes from the ship’s bow and the colours are spectacular, lighting up the sky in pink, mauve and white.

              Days 7-8

                East Coast

Spend these days navigating along the east coast of Greenland, exploring the fjords and glaciers. The exact itinerary is in the capable hands of your expert Captain and crew, who will dictate the best landings based off of the day's weather and wildlife spottings.

                Day 9

                  Farvell Cape Passage, Greenland

                  Port details pending.

                  Day 10

                    West Coast

Similar to previous days on the eastern seaboard of Greenland, spend the day navigating the stunning west coast of Greenlands rugged shores.

                    Day 11

                      Nuuk, Greenland

When Erik the Red, the exiled Norse chief, landed on the coast of Nuuk at the tail end of the 10th century, he found a fertile and welcoming land dotted with fjords. He settled there with a group of his former countrymen, and the Norse remained the principal inhabitants until, over a period of 500 years, their population declined and gave way to the Inuit. Nuuk is situated at the mouth of one of the largest fjords in the world, where the waters never freeze. The town spreads gently out towards the Davis Strait and enjoys an historic centre that is particularly rich in national heritage. The National Museum is home to fabulous collections of items depicting Inuit hunter and fishermen’s lives. Despite being Greenland’s capital city and its largest, Nuuk benefits from the rarefied atmosphere of inaccessibility; it can only be reached by air or sea, as there are no roads on Greenland. The vivid reds, blues, greens and yellows of the houses are a lively contrast to the sombre waters of Greenland and serve to lift the spirits of the locals during the winter months. Nuuk is visually emotive and imbued with the expressions of the tundra, the sea and the sky.

                      Days 12-13

                        Ilulissat - Disko Bay, Greenland

At the heart of Disko Bay - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Ilulissat Icefjord provides an extraordinary spectacle of almost surreal beauty. The sculptural icebergs continue their on timeless journey, shimmering with their eternal light. Vast pieces of ice break off from the bergs and rejoin the inexorable movement of the sea. Close by lies the town of Ilulissat, the region’s principal destination. Encircled by icebergs, it has retained a unique mix of traditional Arctic life, with multicoloured wooden houses, huskies and the leather tanners who still work today using the ancient methods of their ancestors.

                        Day 14

                          At Sea

Spend the day navigating the numerous fjords of Greenland.

                          Day 15

                            Kangerlussuaq, Greenland

Disembark this morning for your continued journey home.
