Expand All

Day 1: Civitavecchia (Rome)

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Arrive in Rome and transfer to Civitavecchia to board the Sea Cloud. Attend dinner as the ship sets sail.

Day 2: At Sea

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Enjoy the ship's amenities as she sails for the island of Capri.

Day 3: Capri

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Even at the time of the Roman Empire, Capri was a particularly precious natural gem and became the summer residence of the Emperor Tiberius. Artists and hedonists, aristocrats and the moneyed classes discovered the island for themselves in the 19th century. This stunningly beautiful rocky island in the Gulf of Naples is famous for its numerous grottos, the most well known being the Blue Grotto. You can expect a combination of pleasure and spectacle when you experience the colourful lifestyle and goings-on in the Piazetta right in the centre of Capri.

Day 4: Amalfi

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The beautifully curving Amalfi Coast, which meanders along the starkly protruding Sorrento peninsula, has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. In the pretty little town of Amalfi, whose history as an influential maritime republic is still clear to see, a dense labyrinth of pastel-coloured houses clings to the rocky coastline. Boasting three naves, the beautiful 10th century cathedral with an enchanting cloister, colourful marble façade, Arabic-Norman campanile and magnificent steps leading to the lively Piazza Duomo is the heart of this small coastal town.

Day 5-6: Giardini Naxos (Taormina)/Sicily

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Taormina is perched on a rock with a majestic view over the sea. In the 19th century, this small town had already developed into a dream destination for well-heeled travellers and artists. The town's fascination lies in its elegance, the many ancient buildings, the stunningly beautiful coastline, the mild climate, and the view over the silhouette of Etna. Europe's largest volcano is over 3,000 metres (9,843 foot) high, has four summit craters and around 400 subsidiary craters, and is covered with snow almost all year round. In ancient times it was considered the seat of the gods, but nowadays large sections of it are a nature reserve.

Day 7: Gozo

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner

Day 8: La Valletta

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
This strategically important location has always attracted foreign conquerors. More than 7,000 years ago, a civilisation existed here, leaving behind enormous temple complexes. Just like proud Valletta, these are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Jean Parisot de la Valette, Grand Master of the Order of St John, founded a modern fortified city on a rock in 1566, between the two splendid natural ports of Marsamxett and Grand Harbour. Long rows of facades made from golden-yellow blocks of chalk stretch along the straight streets. Splendid Renaissance and Baroque buildings are evidence of riches and power, such as the Palace of the Grand Master and the impressive St John's Co-Cathedral.

Day 9: Syracuse/Sicily

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The municipal area of Syracuse boasts relics from cultural history going back more than three millennia. In ancient times, the city was the most powerful in the known world and was famed for its splendour. The island of Ortigia, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was where Syracuse began its rise as an ancient city. The huge cathedral is at the heart of the old town, magnificent palaces line the Piazza and wide promenades invite you to take a stroll. The archaeological park brings Greek and Roman history back to life. Yet Syracuse exudes southern Italian charm, with washing drying outside the windows.

Day 10: At Sea

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner

Day 11: Vathy/Ithaki

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner

Day 12: Pylos/Peloponnese

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Pylos, an attractive fishing village with a beautiful marina and some nearby beaches, is situated in a picturesque location in the Bay of Navarino. There has been a settlement here since ancient times and it has always been of great strategic importance. The Neo Kastro fortress was built by the Ottomans in the 16th century and this former lookout point for enemy fleets is now the best place to catch a fantastic view. In 1952, the ruins of a Mycenaean palace were discovered near Pylos. Though it is debatable whether the imposing Nestor's Palace really belonged to the legendary King from Homer's Iliad, the former multi-storey building is certainly impressive.

Day 13: Monemvasia/Peloponnese

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The little town of Monemvasia nestles closely against a rock that lies just off the coast. This impregnable fortress was an important trading centre in Byzantine times. Today it is a retreat for wealthy Athenians who spend their weekends here. Behind its walls you can discover the beautifully restored lower town, where you simply want to drift along the tranquil narrow lanes. This picturesque little town on a rock transports you back in time to the romantic Middle Ages, when it was exceptionally modern and lively.

Day 14: Nauplion/Peloponnese

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The old town of Nauplion has a picturesque peninsula setting and three Venetian fortresses guard the pretty town. In ancient times, the excavation site of Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was one of the most important towns in Greece. Its legendary king, Agamemnon, has a large role in Homer's Iliad. The palace grounds were surrounded by a cyclopean stone wall. Now you can only gain entrance through the famous Lion Gate. In Epidaurus, also protected by UNESCO, the impressive 14,000-seat theatre is one of the most important buildings in this archaeological site.

Day 15: Piraeus / Athens

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Arrive in Piraeus Port in the morning and disembark after breakfast. Transfer either into Athens or to the airport for your continued independent journeys.
