Las Torres EcoCamp

About the Lodge · Energy Supply · Sustainable Design · Staying At Ecocamp · Suite Domes

This is camping the easy way, offering an authentic eco-tourism experience since travelers are exposed to nature but with the comfort and sophistication of a four stars hotel.

The EcoCamp features standard domes you can stand up in, each with wooden floors, two single beds (or one double bed), sheets, blankets, and feather comforter.

The EcoCamp has a central dome which measures 9 meters in diameter and 4.5 meters high, which serves as a meeting place and dining room that is heated by wood stove and has wooden floors.

The dome architecture was inspired from the old photographs of the area's indigenous population, the Kawesqar Indians, whose huts were similar to igloos, covered with guanaco skins. The dome shape allows the tents to withstand the area's wind (which can reach 160km per hour), rain, and snow, and offers an efficient allocation of space and maintaining heat.

The EcoCamp also includes a bathroom module with hot showers and modern toilets working on a compost system (turning human waste into compost).

Suite Domes are an upgrade option for travelers that would like to have a dome that has a private bathroom and is larger than the conventional domes. Suite Domes are available for travelers joining the End of the World 11 day trip or a custom itinerary but are not available for trekkers.

The importance of interfering as little as possible with the environment means that some of the comforts normally found in unprotected areas (such as private bathrooms with septic tanks, and diesel generators) are not available but utilizing technologies and sustainable processes is essential for the conservation of one of the most important national parks of the southern hemisphere, in harmony with both nature and the current demands of tourism.
