Uruguay is famous for its estancias and beaches, and this 8 day Uruguay tour offers both. Visit Colonia and Montevideo before heading east to a traditional estancia for two nights for horseback riding and a glimpse at the gaucho culture. Day 1 Arrive Colonia

Arrive today to Colonia del Sacramento by ferry from Buenos Aires and transfer to your hotel in the historic district. In the afternoon take a bike tour along the cobbled streets of the old town of Colonia and the riverside boulevard to the Casa de los Limoneros, where you will enjoy a drink and some snacks in their beautiful gardens. This is an exciting opportunity to visit the best sights of the city of Colonia. Due to its colonial beginnings, the city's layout is different from the majority of Uruguayan cities, with its cobbled streets and houses alternating with small bars, excellent restaurants, art and craft shops, museums. The trip can be customized based on the specific interests of the group, but travelers will often visit the beach promenade, Real de San Carlos with its bullfighting arena, the Old Town, and the museums.

Day 2 Montevideo City Tour

After a group bus transfer to Montevideo, enjoy lunch at the lively Port Market. Next, take a walking tour of the Cuidada Vieja, the colonial historic district and explore its monuments, antique stores, and lovely stone buildings. Later explore Montevideo's coastal promenade, know as the Rambla, by bike.

Later this afternoon, enjoy a biking tour of the riverside boulevard. Tonight overnight in Montevideo.

Day 3 Estancia Guardia del Monte

First this this morning you are off to explore the rest of Montevideo and to visit one of the fantastic local wineries where you can sample some of their wine.

Afterwards, take a group bus ride to Castillos and the continue on to Estancia Guardia del Monte. Enjoy the rest of the day free to take in the natural trails near the Estancia.

Day 4 Horseback Riding at Estancia Guardia del Monte

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Today is yours free to enjoy the Estancia at your leisure. Take a horseback ride to the palm forests and along the estancia fields or enjoy many of the other activities, suchh as the Mount Ombues Indian Trail, bird watching, canoeing and fishing.

These activities can be arranged locally at the Estancia Guardia del Monte.

Day 5 Cabo Polonio Sand Dune Trekking

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
After breakfast, a private transfer will take you to the small fishing village of Valizas. Enjoy a short tour of the area before you climb the sand dunes and attempt to make it to the highest point of the "Cerro de la Buena Vista". From here you will have stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding dunes and neighboring wetlands. Next hike to the small village of Cabo Polonio where you will enjoy lunch while you watch the sea lions sprawling on nearby rocks.

Late this afternoon transfer to a nearby seaside town.

Day 6 Anastasio Lagoon | On to Jose Ignacio

This morning transfer to the Anastasio Lagoon where your canoe will be waiting for you. Enjoy the morning canoeing across the lagoon and down to the Garzon Lagoon. As you cruise along, admire the diversity of animals, especially the bird life. After a picnic lunch, continue on to Jose Ignacio by bike. Relax on near the lagoon for the rest of the evening.

Day 7 Jose Ignacio Free day

Enjoy a free day in the beach village of Jose Ignacio. Stroll through the village, climb the lighthouse, enjoy good food in one of the many local restaurants or just lay back are relax on the beach.

Day 8 Return to Montevideo

  • 1 Breakfast
After breakfast, return to Montevideo by group bus. From here a private transfer will take you either to the port for the ferry to Buenos Aires or to the airport for your flight onward.
