Explore Sicily and the Aeolian Islands aboard the Panorama on this 8 day Mediterranean tour! This tour introduces travelers to the fascinating history of the region and features spectacular scenery.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Board the Panorama at 3 PM. Attend a welcome dinner and familiarize yourself with the ship and its crew. Overnight in port.
Day 2: Catania
In the morning, take one of two guided day excursions. Choose to travel to Taormina, Sicily's crown jewel, or to Old Catania and the Etna Volcano.
In the evening, sail for Valetta, Malta, and overnight at sea.
Day 3: Valetta
Arrive in Valetta, home to a rich prehistoric culture that created megalithic structures. View the impressive structures at the Tarxien, which were built before the Great Pyramids of Egypt! Take an optional morning and afternoon tour to view the historic city center of Valetta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the St. John's Cathedral and view its stunning interior and historical treasures. Overnight in port.
Day 4: Valette / Gozo Island
In the morning, sail from Valetta to Gozo Island. Arrive in Gozo Harbor after lunch and join an optional excursion to the Citadel and its Baroque Cathedral, Our Lady of Ta Pinu Basilica, the St. George Basilica, and the Cathedral Museum. In the afternoon, attend a short wine tasting before returning to the ship. Depart for Syracuse in the late evening and overnight at sea.
Day 5: Syracuse
In the morning, arrive at the port of Syracuse. The city, one of the most prestigious of the Hellenistic world, rivaled Athens in power. Join an optional morning excursion to the spectacular 15,000-seat Greek theater, the Roman amphitheater, the archeological museum, the Temple of Apollo, the Fountain of Aretusa, and the Cathedral, which incorporates the remains of the famed Temple of Athena.
After lunch, take an inland tour to Sicily's southeast region, known for its Baroque towns. Visit well-preserved Noto, a small town situated on a plateau. In the evening, sail for the Aeolian Islands and overnight at sea.
Day 6: Lipari / Aeolian Islands
Arrive at Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands. Sitting high on a red volcanic rock, the Greek poet Homer described the island as a 'wall of bronze.' Archeological remains found on the island yield clues to civilizations which date to 1700 BC. Highlights include several Neolithic stones that sit alongside ancient tombstones, and the ruins of Greek walls and Roman Villas. The Spaniards landed on the island in the 16th century and built the Castello and the 17th century cathedral which is perched above the harbor. Spend the afternoon at your leisure and overnight in port.
Day 7: Lipari / Vulcano Island
In the morning, sail from Lipari to Vulcano Island, made famous for its mud baths and majestic volcano crater.
In the afternoon, sail for Panarea, a quaint old-style Aeolian island. Explore the island and gather in the evening for a traditional farewell dinner at anchor. Begin the return trip to Catania and sail past the island of Stromboli, famous for its ever-active volcano. View the volcano as it erupts in the twilight. Overnight at sea.
Day 8: Catania
Arrive in Catania at 8:30 AM. Disembark after breakfast between 9 and 10 AM and connect with your onward flight.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
