Argentina Travel Update: Changes in Collection of Reciprocity FeeArgentinas Aerolineas regarding changes that the Argentine government is making in how the reciprocity fee is collected. The statement reads as follows:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR AMERICAN, CANADIAN AND AUSTRALIAN CLIENTS TRAVELING TO ARGENTINA.
The fee that Americans, Canadians and Australians must pay when they enter Argentina (AEP and EZE) can presently be paid upon arrival. In the future passengers will have to pay the fee on-line. If one arrives in Argentina without showing proof that the fee was paid he/she will not be able to enter Argentina.
ALL INFORMATION AND DATES BELOW ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT INFORMATION WE HAVE. BEING A GOVERNMENT FEE AND NOT PART OF THE FARE AND NOT COLLECTED ON THE TICKET YOU SHOULD CONTACT ANY ARGENTINE CONSULATE OR THE EMBASSY. YOU CAN ALSO CHECK argentina.usembassy.gov.
There might be some exceptions to who has to and who doesn't have to pay this reciprocal fee.
Until payment of the fee on-line is mandatory one can either pay upon arrival or on-line, before leaving.
For passengers arriving at EZE on/after December 29, 2012 the fee MUST BE PAID ON-LINE.
For passengers arriving at AEP on/after October 01, 2012 the fee MUST BE PAID ON-LINE.
The payment can be made on either of these web sites:
www.migraciones.gov.ar or www.provinciapagos.com.ar
This fee is a government fee and has nothing to do with Aerolineas Argentinas. Passengers will need to check these web sites if they have any questions and/or need to request a refund.
Subject to change.
The changes where implemented by The Direction National of Migration (DNM) and the Argentine Ministry of Interior. The DNM's site, Provincia Pagos, provides additional information.
This fee applies to citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia. Each travelers has to pay the following amount:
United States: $160 (fee is valid for 10 years -- transferable to a new passport if you show your old one)
Canada: $75 (valid for one single entry)
Australia: $100 (valid for a year -- and multiple entries for that year)
Ok -- I completely agree -- these new hoops are a bit of a headache. But I'd jump through a headache-filled-hoop any day for the experiences and incredible views that only Argentina travel can offer. Views like this one:
