Private Independent Travel

Travel the Galapagos Islands on a 15-day island circumnavigation tour. This voyage crosses the equator and visits the tropical islands of San Cristobal, Espanola, Floreana, Santa Cruz, Genovesa, Fernandina, and Santiago. Make sea lion friends in the warm water, take short hikes across the islands, and view the famed Galapagos tortoises.

Day 1

    San Cristobal

Arrive at the San Cristobal airport and transfer to the Eric, Letty, or Flamingo.

San Cristobal is the easternmost island in the Galapagos archipelago and, geologically, one of the oldest. Spot nesting colonies of Frigatebirds and cruise around Kicker Rock, a cone formation which rises nearly 500 ft out of the sea.

    Day 2

      San Cristobal

Arrive at Cerro Brujo, and land on its breathtaking white-coral beach. Considered to be one of the most pristine beaches in the Galapagos, Cerro Brujo is ideal for birders and individuals seeking short hikes. Snorkel or swim with the sea lions or take a zodiac ride.

      Day 3

        Espanola

Travel to Punta Suarez, which offers the highest range of endemic species in Galapagos archipelago. Land on the beach and greet the sea lions on shore. Colonies of blue-footed boobies are often found showing off for future mates. There is also a unique species of marine iguana, identified with traces of red and green colorings.

        Day 4

          Floreana

Step ashore at Punta Cormorant, one of the only populated islands in the Galapagos archipelago. This island is intriguing and presents a rich human history which is closely linked to the animals. Hike towards a lagoon which is home to several species of birds, including the Greater Flamingo. Hope to see sea turtles laying their eggs. Snorkel at Devil’s Crown or Champion, shallow sunken craters known for their fish and aquarium-like coral inhabitants.

          Day 5

            Santa Cruz Island

Travel by bus to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. Watch as the scenery changes, eventualy covering each of the seven vegetation zones represented in the Galapagos.

Visit Las Primicias, a private farm where you can encounter giant tortoises in their natural habitat. Stop at the tunnels, the largest lava tubes found in Galapagos, before visiting Los Gemelos and the Charles Darwin Research Station. Walk around three tortoise corals and the breeding center.

            Day 6

Santa Cruz Island - Bartolome - Chinese Hat

Travel to Bartolome, a uniquely barren island which is largely inhospitable to most plants and wildlife. Hike for 30 minutes towards the summit of a dormant volcano. Admire lava bombs, spatter, and cinder cones before reaching the top to gaze across the island. Snorkel in the clear water with schools of tropical fish and Galapagos penguins or take a ride on the zodiac.

In the afternoon, sail to the southern tip of Santiago, Sombrero Chino (Chinese Hat). Come ashore to walk through sea lion colonies or take a trail through primeval volcanic landscape.

              Day 7

South Plaza Island - North Seymour

Visit South Plaza, a small geological uplift with tall cliffs which offers spectacular views. Take a trail through Prickly Pear or Opuntia, often finding Galapagos land iguanas feeding on cactus leaves. Encounter a colony of bachelor sea lions and observe their various stages of recovery from battles lost over prime beach territory.

                Day 8

                  San Cristobal

Visit the Interpretation Center and gain a more complete understanding of the natural and human history of the Islands.

                  Day 9

                    Genovesa

Visit Genovesa, a shield volcano. Rich in birdlife, Genovesa stretches about five miles and is filled with salt water. Hike up Prince Philip's Steps and be rewarded with an extraordinary view of the island.

                    Day 10

                      Santa Cruz Island

                      Return to Santa Cruz Island.

                      Day 11

                        Fernandina - Isabela

Explore Isabela, an active shield volcano which last erupted in 2009. This rocky island is largely inhospitable to animals, but watch oyster-catchers and sally light-foot crabs skirt across the rocks.

                        Day 12

                          Isabela

Striding the equator, Isabela is the largest of the Galapagos Islands and features flora and fauna which is impossible to compare to anywhere else. Home to more wild tortoises than any of the other islands, Isabela entrances travelers with its close encounters.

                          Day 13

                            Santiago - Rabida

                            Day 14

                              Santa Cruz Island

Return to Santa Cruz for snorkeling and sun.

                              Day 15

                                San Cristobal

Spend a few hours in port before heading to the airport for departures to the mainland.

All itineraries are subject to change due to weather or changes by the National Park Service or yacht operator.
