Jumping over Cape Horn and the mythical waters of Drake Passage, you are invited to explore one of the most remote places on earth. Day 1 : Punta ArenasArrival in Punta Arenas, where you will be greeted and transfered to your hotel. Day 2 : King George Island/EmbarkOur adventure begins with a flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island. This flight takes a little over one hour and a half. We gather in our zodiacs to board the Grigory Mikheev. Days 3-6 : Cruising the AntarcticWhile cruising between the South Shetland Islands and the and the Western Coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and spectacular icebergs, we will enjoy the company of sea birds, penguins, and whales. Our journey southward will include visits to such spots as Livingston Island, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, and Paradise Bay. Our adventure will be very active, with several landings and cruises in zodiacs, lectures and a very enjoyable time on board. Day 7 : Drake PassageAfter a last visit in the Shetland Islands region, in the afternoon the Grigory Mikheev will set sail across the Drake Passage en route to Ushuaia. We will celebrate our outstanding experience with a memorable New Year's Eve on board ship in one of the most suggestive environments ever seen. Day 8 : Drake PassageThe New Year welcomes us while sailing through Drake Passage. We invite you to relax and enjoy time on board and to take the time to watch wildlife from the decks and bridge. Day 9 : Cape Horn to Puerto WIlliamsWe finally have Cape Horn and the American continent in sight. We sail along the calm waters of the Beagle Channel towards the southernmost Chilean settlement of Puerto Williams. We will tour around before sailing in the night towards Ushuaia. Day 10 : Ushuaia/DisembarkArrival to Ushuaia in the morning, and disembarkation. - Additional fuel surcharge of $20/night on ship, per person, for Antarctica departures. - Air Cruise and Air Cruise Express itineraries do not have a fuel surcharge. - Twin non-private and private cabins are available for single occupancy at 1.8 times the share price (85% for the Antarctic air cruises; 2 times the share price for Superior cabins). - Solo Travelers: Request the Twin Share Program where you can be matched with a cabin mate of the same gender. Even if a cabin mate is not found for you, no single supplement will be charged. - Rates are quoted in U.S. dollars and represent costs per person, double occupancy. Prices are based on a 3% cash discount. Ship Description: Grigoriy MikheevThe 'Grigoriy Mikheev' is a modern and comfortable research vessel of the Hydrographic Institute of St. Petersburg. Built in 1990 in Finland, and designed as an ice-strengthened vessel and converted in the Netherlands for passenger use, the vessel is ideally suited to expedition cruising and polar travel. She has a range of 70 days independent operation and is ISM certified.
