The point of departure for most Antarctic flight-cruises, King George Island is among the most highly populated regions in Antarctica and one of the most heavily trafficked airports.  Because it is so accessible to South America, over eight different countries, including Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Russia and South Korea, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Poland, Germany and the US have stations. Teniente R. Marsh airport is managed by Chile and flights arrive to and from Punta Arenas in Patagonia. It is the only airport in Antarctica which has an IATA code because it is served by public flights, though there are no regularly scheduled public flights to the airport, the Chilean DAP Airlines flies frequently transporting travelers to their Antarctic cruise ships and back to Punta Arenas.
