Polaris

The minute you board our expedition ship Polaris, her mellow woods, polished brass and gracious informality will make you feel right at home. Our Galapagos travel style is casual: there’s no need to dress up ever. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are relaxed and informal, with no assigned seating. Since to us “expedition” doesn’t mean “deprivation,” count on enjoying genuinely fine dining and the attentive personal service that consistently wins us accolades and industry awards. And Polaris’ inviting spaces —her handsome Teak Deck, spacious Lounge and plush Library make enjoying camaraderie (after all, one of the chief pleasures of our expeditions is traveling with interesting is traveling with interesting fellow guests) or a quiet reverie even more pleasurable.

As we voyage from island to island in the archipelago, we’ll spend time in the richest wild- life locations in Galapagos. Depending on the season and the island we visit, we may see riveting blue-footed booby behavior: sky-pointing, parading, ritual nest building and more. On Floreana, a lovely “garden” island, we’ll travel to the lagoon & may see the resident flock of flamingos; and walk to one of the world’s loveliest beaches, where shy sea turtles mate in the azure waters. On Genovesa, the frigate-bird colonies resound with cries and the eye-catching red of their pouches. We’ll see a variety of marine iguanas. Photograph Sally Lightfoot crabs gleaming against wet lava rocks. And see the famous finches. We’ll also enjoy close encounters with the legendary Galapagos tortoises — at the Darwin Station and depending on the season, in the wild.
