Cuenca City Tour - Half Day

Considered the most colonial city in all the Americas, Cuenca is yours to explore with your guide. Depending on your interests, there are many sites to choose from. First, head to San Sebastian, the historical center of Quito. Here you can admire the colonial buildings and visit the Museum of Modern Art. If shopping is more your style, check out the 10 de Agosto and San Francisco markets. You can visit Parque Calderón, home to both the new and old cathedral or visit a Panama Hat factory (despite the name, they’re actually from Ecuador!). Don’t miss the fantastic view of the city from Mirador de Turi.

Cuenca City Tour - Full Day

Enjoy a full day of exploring colonial Cuenca with your guide. Depart at 9AM and head to the markets at 10 de Agosto and San Francisco. Continue on to San Sebastion, the historical center of Quito and visit the Museum of Modern Art. Stop by the Parque de las Flores and visit Parque Calderón the city's largest plaza and home to both the new and old cathedral. Choose from great museum options and then stop to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, visit a Panama Hat factory and visit the famous Barranco along Calle Largo. Stop by Mirador de Turi for a great view of the city and finish up by visiting the Gallery of Eduardo Vega, whose ceramics have achieved international fame.

Cuenca by Night Tour

Set out this evening with your guide to explore this beautiful city illuminated by the night lights. Start with a tour of the historic center and then head to the new and old cathedrals and courthouse at Parque Calderón . Continue on the Huayna Capac Avenue and the Garden of the Incas. Visit the famous Barranco along Calle Largo and finish with beautiful views of the city from Mirador de Turi. At the end of the tour, you can either be returned to your hotel, or transferred to a restaurant to continue your evening on your own.

Cajas National Park

5 hours - daily

This day tour from Cuenca takes you west to Cajas National Park. Over 200 gorgeous lakes are scattered amongst the jagged rocks and craggy valleys that make up the breathtaking landscape of this often wet and foggy park. Set early this morning heading west. An hour drive brings you to Tres Cruces, located on the Continental Divide, for stunning views. Next, transfer to Laguna Toreadora. This beautiful lagoon is the starting point for your morning hike. You will head to the San Luis Polylepis forest and continue to Lagunas Unidas and Patoquinuas before returning to La Toreadora. This hike takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete at an elevation around 12,795 feet. Enjoy lunch at Hosteria Dos Chorrera (beverages not included) and then visit Llaviucu, another beautiful area of the park for a nice hike that lasts about an hour. Return to the hotel around 4:00 PM.

Gualaceo and Chordeleg Market Tours

A crafter's dream tour! Your journey begins with a visit to the charming little town of San Bartolome. Here you will have the chance to visit a typical local house and see its gardens full of medicinal plants. Stop by the church and main park before continuing on to Chordeleg. Spend time wandering the craft markets of Chordeleg that are famous for silver, wood, gold and ceramics. Your next stop is the crafter's town of Gualaceo where you will visit more local markets. Enjoy lunch at a small country house and then finish your tour with a visit to a craft workshop where the famous "Macanas" or shawls are made. These skilled weavers will teach you about their craft while demonstrating their work. Return to Cuenca in the evening.

Ingapirca

7 hours day - daily

This day tour out of Cuenca takes you north to the fortress of Ingapirca, a major pre-colonial Inca site that dates back to the 15th century. Thought to have originally been built by the Canaris, this site was attacked by the Incas who then lived side by with the native Canaris in the city. Tour the ruins and visit the museum to learn more about the history of Ingapirca. Enjoy a local lunch and then visit the Biblian Sanctuary, home to the beautiful Virgen del Rocio Church. Depending on the day of the week, you will also have the chance to visit either the weavers of Biblian or one of the local markets. Return to Cuenca around 4:00 PM.
