Max Passengers: 48
Ship Type: Expedition Cruise Ship
Operated by: Secret Atlas

Finnish-built and managed by Polar Alca Maritime, the Polar Pioneer is a true small expedition vessel. Small enough to conduct truly intimate cruises and large enough to offer a comfortable onboard experience with some of the best cruising staff in the industry, this light expedition ship provides unparalleled access to the polar region.

Polar Pioneer was initially built in 1982 as an ice-strengthened research vessel with an ice-class of 1A Super, ideal for sailing in polar regions with dense sea ice. Guests and expedition leaders alike have praised its strength, maneuverability, and size over its 19 seasons in the arctic. In contrast to larger vessels, she can take only 48 passengers on an actual expedition journey. No one has to wait to go ashore or explore because all visitors can fit in the Zodiacs simultaneously.

Amenities Onboard

Guests searching for an authentic adventure experience can board this ship crewed by a group of professionals with decades of combined polar water experience.

Large deck areas with high elevations make the Polar Pioneer ideal for photographing the scenery. She has a big passenger saloon with a bar and an onboard sauna to relax in after a long day.

Five Zodiacs can accommodate all of her passengers for shore landings and exploration—boots are provided!

A doctor and a clinic are on board for your convenience.

Polar Itineraries

Polar Pioneer is conducting expeditions to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Canadian Arctic, including Svalbard and Greenland.
