Top Antarctica Wildlife
Whales. Whale watching is a highlight of each Antarctic expedition. Whales seen in Antarctica include Humpback, Blue, Southern Right, Sei, Antarctic Minke, Fin, Sperm, and Killer Whales.
Penguins. Antarctica and its adjacent islands include seven major species: Adelie, Chinstrap, Emperor, Gentoo, Rockhopper, Macaroni, and King.
Seals. The Antarctic is home to six seal species: the Weddell, Ross, leopard, crabeater, and fur seals, as well as the huge elephant seals, which may weigh up to 4000 kg, or about 9000 pounds!
Birds. Penguins, albatrosses, cormorants, petrels, bitterns, shearwaters, herons, egrets, ducks, geese, swans, sheathbills, skuas, jaegers, and gulls are just some of the 46 bird species that call Antarctica home.
Antarctica has penguins, seals, whales, and birds, but no polar bears.
Polar bears do not live in Antarctica.
