Day 1: Tour Montevideo

Enjoy a tour of the different neighborhoods of Montevideo which started developing after the demolition of the Old City Walls of Montevideo in 1829. Explore the differences between the the Old City and La Ciudad Nueva (the new city), which was planned with wide and tree lined streets to better display magnificent stores and residences. You tour is flexible but as an example start with the Plaza Independencia to admire the surrounding buildings of different styles, which clearly define it as a city facing the future. A few blocks away, visit the Plaza Fabini or Plaza del Entrevero, with a magnificent sculpture of a battle between the first Spanish settlers and the native inhabitants, masterpiece of the Uruguayan artist José Belloni. From this spot enjoy a clear view of the Palacio Legislativo (Congress) a multicoloured marble building, one of the most impressive in Latin America. Continue onto the Ciudad Abierta (the open city), the area of Montevideo which have grewn into an open city of green parks, famous monuments, and residential areas. This tour is approximately 4 hours.
