The journey through the Alaska Railway is a great travel experience. Start your Alaska adventure in Anchorage and work your way north visiting Denali National Park including a flightseeing tour across Denali's Wickersham Wall with an overnight stay in Talkeetna. Spend three nights in Denali exploring the National Park and enjoy a canyon rafting experience. Visit the Kantishna community through a bus road tour. Return to Anchorage on your way home or choose among the extension tours available to explore more of Alaska.
Moderately active but not overly strenuous. This level includes activities like casual cycling, yoga, or excursions/activities that typically last 3-5 hours total each day.
Arrive in Anchorage and settle into your downtown hotel this evening. If time allows, explore the city a bit tonight. Add a free day in Anchorage to include a flightsee, dog sled or bear viewing tour to explore the area. Rest up before the first full day.
Travel north on the train today, arriving at Talkeetna, the historic stop that marks Denali mid-way. Settle into your lodge before setting out on an afternoon guided flight-seeing tour of Denali National Park. Fly completely around Mt. McKinley, spotting its various features such as the Kahiltna Glacier, the west buttress, Sheldon Amphitheater, Ruth Glacier, and the Great Gorge. Then, fly across the divide to spot Denali's Wickersham Wall, a 14,000-foot continuous 'wall' of rock and ice. Next, land on the gentle slope of Ruth Glacier for an opportunity to view and photograph the peaks surrounding you. Return to your lodge this evening.
Enjoy a leisurely morning before traveling by train further north to the Denali National Park Entrance. Check into your cabin accommodations. Visit Denali National Park’s Visitor Center for information on the park’s rich cultural and natural history. Learn about park science programs at the adjacent Murie Science and Learning Center or find guidance on which trail to hike. Connect with an interpretive program or catch the free shuttle to the dog demo, where you’ll learn about the only canine rangers in the NPS system during a thrilling program—feeling like a deeper dive into the park? Take the free shuttle to Savage River, where expansive views of the vast river valley lined by the Alaska Range and the Outer Range give you a great chance to see caribou, moose, grizzly bears, and more.
Free shuttles to activities just outside the park entrance are available from the railroad depot, including access to rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, fly fishing, shopping, restaurants, and more.
Follow in the footsteps on Fannie Quigley to the old gold town of Kantishna on this all-day adventure to the end of the Park Road. Join a Certified Interpretive Guide on this unique experience, and learn about the park – and spend time in Kantishna discovering its fascinating history and role in the formation of Interior Alaska. This experience also features a National Park Service Interpretive Ranger from Wonder Lake. This is the only tour to feature an Interpretive Ranger from the National Park Service.
Canyon Run - Hang on! It’s whitewater ahead! You’ll get wet and enjoy every minute of it as we head for Healy, 11 miles downriver. Get into real whitewater rafting as you hang on through thrilling rapids such as “Razorback,” “Coffee Grinder,” and “Ice Worm”! You choose Oar Rafts or Paddle Rafts (It takes 5 participants to paddle, when possible, we combine parties to reach five or more). Both oar rafts and paddle rafts run the same rapids on the river. Perfect for 1st timers, an oar raft is rowed by the guide while rafters sit, hold on and enjoy the view. In a paddle raft, you will be expected to follow instructions and participate by paddling the raft down the river. You still have a guide, but everyone has a paddle, and the manual instructs you on how and when to swim.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
