Spend your first day in Hafnarfjordur, a charming port town and municipality located on the southwest coast of Iceland. Hafnarfjordur is known for its wildly shaped lava formations, fantastic museums, variety of shops and restaurants, and geothermal swimming pools.

Spend today at sea crossing the Denmark Strait, the body of water between Iceland and Greenland.

Located in the far northwest of Greenland, Fjord Knud Rasmussen is one of four large glaciers that feeds the "Wolstenholme Fjord."

Follow in the wake of the famous Pourquoi-Pas, Jean-Baptiste Charcot’s boat that in 1934 sailed for Ammassalik with four world-famous scientists on board, including the anthropologist and team leader Paul- Emile Victor. The island, with its savage and unpredictable coastline, captivated the explorers, and they decided to extend their journey and voyage into the heart of the Inuit communities. This is wild territory; surrounded by icebergs and alpine peaks carved out by the glaciers, the coast has many surprises in store. One such surprise is the charming little museum that is home to precious Inuit artistic and cultural artifacts, like the Tupilaqs (figurines), masks, ancient tools, traditional dress, husky sleds and a hand crafted kayak that was once paddled across the surrounding fjords. In Inuit custom, the name Ammassalik means "capelans", small silver fish whose return in the thousands heralds the start of spring.

Today, explore the stunning Sermilik Fjord, or "the Iceberg Trail" located in Sirmilik National Park. Keep your eye out for Humpback Whales that often take up residence in the fjord during the summers.

When Erik the Red, the exiled Norse chief, landed on the coast of Nuuk at the tail end of the 10th century, he found a fertile and welcoming land dotted with fjords. He settled there with a group of his former countrymen, and the Norse remained the principal inhabitants until, over a period of 500 years, their population declined and gave way to the Inuit. Nuuk is situated at the mouth of one of the largest fjords in the world, where the waters never freeze. The town spreads gently out towards the Davis Strait and enjoys an historic center that is particularly rich in national heritage. The National Museum is home to fabulous collections of items depicting Inuit hunter and fishermen’s lives. Despite being Greenland’s capital city and its largest, Nuuk benefits from the rarefied atmosphere of inaccessibility; it can only be reached by air or sea, as there are no roads on Greenland. The vivid reds, blues, greens and yellows of the houses are a lively contrast to the somber waters of Greenland and serve to lift the spirits of the locals during the winter months. Nuuk is visually emotive and imbued with the expressions of the tundra, the sea and the sky...

At the heart of Disko Bay - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Ilulissat Icefjord provides an extraordinary spectacle of almost surreal beauty. The sculptural icebergs continue on their timeless journey, shimmering with their eternal light. Vast pieces of ice break off from the bergs and rejoin the inexorable movement of the sea. Close by lies the town of Ilulissat, the region’s principal destination. Encircled by icebergs, it has retained a unique mix of traditional Arctic life, with multicolored wooden houses, huskies and the leather tanners who still work today using the ancient methods of their ancestors.
