Visit Svalbard early in the season on this Arctic cruise, when the midnight sun reigns supreme. The bird colonies are teeming with life and the peaks of the dramatic mountain ranges are snow-covered. Ice still keeps the islands in its grip and you can admire the ever-changing ice formations while searching for walrus, polar bears and much, much more on an unforgettable Arctic tour.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Start your adventure in Svalbard by exploring the High Arctic capital of Longyearbyen. In the afternoon embark your expedition ship and sail out through the spectacular Ice Fjord. You are now in a part of the world where you will be totally dependent on ice and weather conditions. The exact itinerary depends on these factors and on the wildlife we encounter. Your ambition is to make landings every day with the rigid Zodiac craft – here are some examples of places you may visit:
Prins Karls Forland This narrow strip of land is covered by a magnificent, snow-covered mountain chain. The island is home to many seabirds and harbour seals.
Barentsburg and Ny Alesund Not far from Norwegian Longyearbyen is the Russian enclave Barentsburg, a fascinating coal mining settlement. In the scientific village of Ny Alesund, Arctic terns nest by the main street and wild reindeer grazing are often seen. It was from here that Amundsen and Nobile started their heroic expeditions to the North Pole.
Northwest Svalbard On the islands of Danskoya, Amsterdamoya, and Ytre Norskoya there are still visible remnants from the bustling activity during the 17th century whaling period. Two of the most courageous attempts to reach the North Pole started on Danskoya. Swedish balloonist Andree made an attempt with hydrogen balloon and American journalist Wellman started out with airship. The site is still littered with interesting remnants from these expeditions.
Fantastic Fjords Svalbard offers the visitor countless spectacular fjords. During your journey explore a few of them such as:
Liefdefjorden -meaning "the fjord of love", is lined with snow-covered mountain peaks and at its base hope to cruise along the face of the spectacular Monaco Glacier. Many common eiders and pink-footed geese nest in the area and if lucky see the rare king eider.
In Krossfjorden delight in the beautifully sculptured front of the 14th of July Glacier to the raucous greeting of the large numbers of kittiwakes and Brunnich`s guillemots nesting on the nearby cliffs.
Raudfjorden is an area of immense natural beauty – dominated by beautiful glaciers, it is also a favorite spot for seals and the bird cliffs are bursting with life.
North Spitsbergen and Hinlopen North of Spitsbergen meet the pack ice edge. Not many ships venture here and marvel at the silence and grandeur of this icy landscape. Chances of meeting polar bears increase as you sail along the ice floes. If the ice allows enter Hinlopen Strait. Here is Alkefjellet (Auk Mountain), a sheer, basaltic cliff, which is the home to some 200,000 Brünnich`s guillemots.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
