This interactive and exciting 11-day voyage brings you to North Spitsbergen, the ideal site for Arctic adventures. Participate in polar bear photo-safari activities in continuous Arctic daylight and discover seals and whales in the Arctic pack ice. Find yourself far above the Arctic Circle – only 600 miles from the North Pole.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
The small town Longyearbyen, honored to be the administrative capital of the Spitsbergen archipelago, is a starting point of our expedition. A visit to the Polar Museum will be a fantastic start of your great Arctic adventure.
Embark the Sea Spirit in the afternoon and keep an eye for our first whales as the ship sails out of Isfjorden.
Today, the Sea Spirit enters the picturesque Krossfjorden. Board a Zodiac and cruise along the Glacier of 14th of July. This place is remarkable for the beautiful view: blue ice, green slopes near the glacier, a colorful variety of wild flowers, and bird colonies on the nearby cliffs. Arctic Fox are also seen here – patroling the base of the cliffs in case a chick falls from its nest.
Day 3: Liefdefjorden, Andøya Island – Monaco Glacier
The landscape of Liefdefjorden may be used as demonstration material for the “Different forms of water” lecture. It is formed by glaciers, snow, rain, clouds and slushy water, also pack and sea ice. On Andøya Island, go for a walk to observe tundra landscapes and various species of arctic birds. Then cruise along the face of the picturesque Monaco Glacier. You may have the opportunity to see polar bears on the glacier as it offers an incredible opportunity to get great photos.
As the ship travels far north, the crew plans on landing at Phippsøya, the largest one of Seven Islands archipelago. The island and nearby region are great places for walrus photography and a favorite hunting area of polar bears.
Spend a second day in the pack ice to maximize opportunities to observe the main masters of the Arctic - walruses and polar bears.
Karl XII Island is a roughly 2 km long, narrow island situated about 34 km north of Nordaustlandet. The 105 meter high Kongsberget in the north and the 30 meter high Drabanten in the south are two of the highest points on the island. Karl XII Island is named after Karl XII, King of Sweden 1697-1718.
Today the crew hopes to get to the rarely visited Kvitoya. The island is dominated by an icecap, which leaves a small area bare of ice and snow. Weather permitting, land at the western tip at Andréneset, where the Swedish explorer André and his companions perished in 1898.
Today, the ship enters Hinlopen Strait, pushing on through ice floes. This area is home to seals, polar bears and ivory gulls. Board a Zodiac and cruise to the towering cliffs of Alkefjellet, home to thousands of Brünnich’s Guillemot nesting on them. The bird colonies provide an abundance of bird egg meals for polar bears and Arctic fox roaming at the base of the cliffs.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
