After a day of adventure, unwind in comfortable and stylish accommodations, providing the ideal sanctuary in this coastal destination.
Explore Kennebunkport’s Lower Village and Dock Square near the ocean and the Kennebunkport River. Since the early 1600s, this area has been a hub for shipbuilding, with locally crafted schooners making their way to the Atlantic. Portland, located on a peninsula jutting into Casco Bay, features a lively Old Port waterfront with active fishing wharves and converted warehouses now serving as restaurants, shops, and museums.
Sightseeing opportunities include the Portland architectural district, the famous Portland Head Light, and visits to the charming towns of Kennebunkport and Kennebunk, where you’ll have free time to explore. Coaches depart from the port to take you through the elegant Victorian Mansion district, past the boyhood home of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and by many former Sea Captain’s homes. Enjoy the scenic views of Casco Bay and the iconic lighthouse that guides vessels into the port.
Kennebunkport, a short drive away, has long been a favored summer retreat for former President G.W. Bush and others drawn to its maritime charm. While there, be sure to visit the architecturally notable homes in nearby Kennebunk, the Franciscan Monastery, and the whimsical "wedding cake house."
Navigate through the serene Strait of Canso, a narrow channel that divides Cape Breton Island from mainland Nova Scotia. Enjoy the calm waters and scenic views of this vital maritime passage.
Serving as a partial boundary between the U.S. and Canada, The St. Lawrence River is an important route for trade and travel. The waterway is fed by the world's largest source of freshwater - The Great Lakes, beginning at the outflow of Lake Ontario near Kingston and flowing northeast to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean. The river spans 744 miles and widens significantly near Quebec City to become the St. Lawrence Estuary.
Day 8: Escoumins/Tadoussac, Quebec (Service Call) | Whale Watching near Tadoussac, Quebec
Tadoussac, where The St. Lawrence River meets the outflow of the Saguenay River, is one of the most exciting whale-watching sites in the world. Between May and October, up to 13 species of cetaceans make their way upriver from the Atlantic Ocean, to become temporary residents in the salty rich waters of the St. Lawrence. These sea mammals include blue whales, the largest animals on the planet, and the impressive humpbacks, which swim up into the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord near Tadoussac to feed. You will rendezvous with the whale-watching crew at the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord. This region of The St. Lawrence River has also been the home of several indigenous tribes and at one time hunters from the far north traveled into the St. Lawrence to augment their whale catch. Nowadays the region is committed to sustaining a safe and rich environment for these extraordinary creatures and the only catch one can make is through the lens of a camera.
Day 9: Quebec City, Quebec | Cruising the St. Lawrence River
Quebec City is the only walled community in North America and is deeply engaged in preserving its history and its unique place in Canada. In the morning, coaches departed for the Plains of Abraham at the point where the battle between the invading English forces and the defenders took place as they stormed the upper city and captured the town. Then onward to pretty Place Royale in the lower town, which in 1759 was bombarded from across the river, as fire ships were dispatched towards the port. You will then drive out of Quebec City to see the historical and majestic Montmorency Falls including a cable car ride to the top where you will have magnificent views across to the Ile d’Orleans. Petit Champlain is a short stroll away and takes the funicular railway to the Chateau Frontenac to visit the magnificent Dufferin Terrace.

As its Iroquoian name implies, this lake of shining waters harbors pieces of each of the other Great Lakes within it. All the water in the Great Lakes flows through this body of water. And the dunes, wetlands, and rocky forests that surround it are recreational wonders for guests year-round.

We had such a great experience with Adventure Life when we booked the Galapagos trip a few years ago. Mary Curry helped us then, and again now. She is very knowledgeable, prompt in communication back and forth, and makes it so easy. Thank you, Mary! P.S. Your chat room person, Jo, was also wonderful.
