Seal River Heritage Lodge

Seal River Heritage Lodge was one of the early members of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World collection. The lodge sits on the Hudson Bay coast in polar bear territory. In summer and fall, bears walk the shoreline while they wait for the bay to freeze. The lodge is also near the Seal River Estuary, where beluga whales gather in July and August. A fenced compound surrounds the lodge. From its viewing platforms and tower, guests can safely watch wildlife that comes close to the lodge and photograph the northern lights. Inside, a lounge with large picture windows lets guests look for wildlife, share photos, and talk with other travelers after a day on the tundra. The lodge runs on solar power, natural gas, and wood heat.

Rooms & Suites
The lodge has eight guest rooms in queen, king, twin, and family layouts, and every room has its own ensuite washroom. Electricity is available 24 hours a day, and heat comes from natural gas and wood.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
Full-service meals are included in the lodge’s service. Guests share a common area with a fireplace and a lounge with large picture windows that look out over the surrounding tundra and coast. The lodge also has a library and a gift shop. Outside, a fenced compound surrounds the building, and outdoor decks and a viewing tower are used for wildlife watching and photography. Satellite Wi-Fi and radio/telephone service are available.
