Philipsburg is the main town on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten. The town is situated on a narrow stretch of land between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond. Philipsburg was founded in 1763 by John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy. The settlement soon became a center for international trade. The main shopping district is located on Front Street in the heart of the city. Many consider Philipsburg to be the best shopping opportunity in the Caribbean.
Prior to the recent volcanic eruptions that commenced in 1995, Montserrat was considered as one of the “insiders'” favorite Caribbean islands. It was also home to producer George Martin’s Air Studios Montserrat recording studio where some of the world’s most famous recording artists, including Eric Clapton, the Little River Band, and Paul McCartney, among many others, used to record their albums. Recent history has brought some unfortunate blows to the island, ranging from hurricanes (Hugo in 1989) to multiple volcanic eruptions. Yet, in the face of such unfortunate setbacks, Montserrat remains an island worth visiting, and its people, as friendly and warm as ever, are trying hard to bring back the economic viability of the island. Just imagine an island where almost two-thirds of its surface space is no longer available to agriculture or habitation; an island whose lovely capital city of Plymouth was destroyed by the volcanic eruptions and mudslides; a population that went from a high of 13,000 inhabitants to as low as 3,000 shortly after the first eruptions. Fortunately, more and more of the former residents are returning to the island and are trying to make a living from tourism once again.
Falmouth Bay is a short walk from Nelson's Dockyard and the English Harbour. Historic buildings and mills surround it. This harbor and the quiet village has plenty of shops, restaurants, and the yacht club. Historic sites, tasty cuisine, and a lively cultural scene can all be found on Antigua. But most often, it's the beauty and versatility of the island's 365 beaches that draw travelers from afar. Land adventure possibilities include a helicopter ride over Montserrat, a jeep and snorkel safari and a St. John’s City and shopping exploration.
The British Overseas Territory of Anguilla is becoming more popular due to the incredible resort options as well as world recognized beaches and amazing golf. You have the opportunity to tee off, swim with dolphins or, for the energetic, bike around the island with the captain or club director.
Perhaps the most treasured destination in the Caribbean, this small island belonging to the French West Indies has so much to offer SeaDream guests. Incredible shopping awaits only steps away from the pier. Incredible beaches, resorts, restaurants, and activities are available both day and night. Ask one of the officers to take you on a hike or bike ride around the island. Another great activity here is to simply relax and watch all of the incredible yachts arriving and departing just off your SeaDream yacht.
This Caribbean paradise is a special municipality of the Netherlands. Due to this fact, Saba is actually the location of the tallest, or highest point/elevation of the Netherlands, even though it is a few thousand miles away from its European homeland. With an estimated local population of just over 2,000 people, Saba is now primarily supported by tourism, and is known for a concentration on “eco-tourism.” This includes diving, hiking, and climbing its mountainous terrain. The island is so small that there is only one main road, and its airport is well-known for having one of the shortest commercial runways in the world. The island’s intimate size, picturesque red rooftops and lush vegetation make it a perfect port to call on during your special Caribbean yachting vacation.
The British Virgin Island’s barefoot island and home of the "Painkiller" drink, Jost van Dyke's population depends on the month – typically 250-300. This is a SeaDream destination where you may be served champagne and caviar in the surf followed by a beach barbecue lunch. A hike is always offered to guests to visit the famous Foxy’s Bar at Great Harbour (hopefully, the boutique is open) or you can stroll a few meters down the beach to the Soggy Dollar Bar. Snorkeling equipment is provided as well as some of the water toys!
Nearly every publication written about Virgin Gorda emphasizes the need to visit “The Baths” – don’t miss it! SeaDream generally arrives early and anchor’s off Spanish Town to give guests an early start to view the baths before all of the tourists arrive from the neighboring Islands. You may also consider excellent scuba diving options or an opportunity to swim with the dolphins. After the short “technical stop” to dispatch land adventures and clearance with the officials, SeaDream navigates scenically up the coast and arrives in North Sound to anchor just off the Bitter End Yacht Club. Here you are offered to join water sports, land adventures, hiking options with the officers and tenders to the Bitter End! Depending on the voyage, you may also visit Prickly Pear Island for another signature champagne and caviar splash option with an incredible setting.
Day 9: Marigot, Saint Martin | Disembark
1 Breakfast
Marigot is the main town and capital on the French side of Saint Martin. The city of Marigot is perhaps the most French in spirit of all the cities in the Caribbean. Colonial houses stand beside cafés and bistros, pastry shops and luxury boutiques, and in many ways, it looks just like any of the French market towns you might expect to find in Europe. At the southern end of town by the harbor is Marina Port la Royale. This area includes elegant stores with the latest in European designer fashion and fine jewelry, all duty and tax-free. The entire city is only four streets wide, so it is very easy to get around. Marigot was named the capital during the reign of King Louis XVI, who built Fort St. Louis on a hill near Marigot Bay. Today, that building is the most important in the city. SeaDream anchors off Marigot and offers several yachting land adventures as well as the possibility to play with the toys at the marina.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.

Our travel was flawless! The rider pickup (airport, hotel, ship) was seamless. Jane's recommendation for Emerald Cruise Sakara was everything I wanted but the experience was soooo much more. Adventure Life took care of each and every detail and this was the easiest of all my travels.

I spoke with at least a half dozen other travel companies, looking for a Galapagos cruise that fit our schedule and budget. Some companies could manage one or the other, but Erin was the only one who could do both. She found us the perfect cruise, at a fantastic price! And she has been quick and patient with responses to my many questions. So far, Adventure Life has been a fantastic company to work with!
