Silky Oaks Lodge sits above the Mossman River, downstream from Mossman Gorge, within the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest on the traditional lands of the Kuku Yalanji people. Hoteliers Moss and Theresa Hunt opened the lodge in 1985 on an 80 ha (198 acre) property, and it is now part of the Beckons portfolio. Its treehouse suites use cantilevered ceilings, open walls, and local timbers that combine Queensland vernacular with contemporary design. Work by Kuku Yalanji and regional artists features throughout, including 45 ceramic tiles by Yalanji Arts Centre artists at the arrival area. The lodge uses LED lighting and water-saving fittings, has eliminated single-use plastics, and supports Mossman Support Services through its Tomorrow Beckons program.
Rooms & Suites
The lodge has elevated treehouse suites in six categories, from one-bedroom retreats to a two-bedroom pavilion. Each suite has floor-to-ceiling glass facing the rainforest, an outdoor balcony with the lodge's signature hammock, an open-plan lounge, and an in-suite bar stocked with local treats. Most categories have a king or twin bed setup and an interior daybed that can sleep a third guest. Bathrooms are ensuite and have walk-in showers. Several categories also have a bathtub on a private outdoor deck. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the property, and daypacks are provided for excursions. One Rainforest Retreat suite is wheelchair accessible.
