Spend a full day exploring Ecuador’s stunning highlands on horseback. This tour invites you to ride through wide-open landscapes, where fresh air, dramatic scenery, and a sense of freedom await. After a short orientation, set out across varied terrain with panoramic views of the Andes all around you. Along the way, observe native flora and fauna, enjoy the calm of remote trails, and take in the rhythms of rural life. Whether you're an experienced rider or a curious beginner, this journey offers a blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural connection. Your day concludes with a peaceful return, carrying the memories of Ecuador’s natural beauty and the unique experience of discovering it on horseback.
Moderately active but not overly strenuous. This level includes activities like casual cycling, yoga, or excursions/activities that typically last 3-5 hours total each day.
Early in the morning, transportation will pick you up from your Quito hotel. The journey will take you towards Hacienda El Porvenir (3600 m./11808 ft.). Upon arrival, a welcome drink option will greet you, which can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and will be served alongside cheese empanadas. Following a brief riding lesson, the trip will proceed towards the slopes of the dormant Rumiñahui volcano, taking exclusive paths within the hacienda. While journeying through the beautiful Andean scenery, you'll get the opportunity to observe herds of wild bulls, various bird species, and breathtaking vistas. The route will eventually take you close to the rocky summits of Rumiñahui, offering clear-day views of up to 12 additional volcanoes. En route, a stop will be made at Chusigmachai, known as the Owl Refuge, before riding back to the farmhouse. The total riding time will be approximately 5 hours, and a box lunch will be provided during the trip. Upon reaching Hacienda El Porvenir, access to the Apu Mountain SPA's wet area will be available at no additional cost (please note that massages are not included). The journey will conclude with a return to Quito.
