On this 6-day Iceland itinerary are three different stunning peaks which are all glaciers and active volcanoes. The breathtaking variety of Icelandic mountain scenery makes this one of the best tours in Iceland. With each peak, your climbing objectives get more challenging and more rewarding. Start with the ascension of Snæfellsjökull Glacier, the crowning jewel of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Your next objective will be the peak of the world-famous Eyjafjallajökull Glacier, famous for its eruption in 2010. In Skaftafell National Park, right under the great Vatnajökull glacier, is the home of Hvannadalshnúkur (2110 m / 6921 ft) Iceland’s highest summit

Day 1: Reykjavík – Snæfellsjökull Glacier

  • 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Start this tour with an early morning pick up at your accommodation in Reykjavik. You will drive towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Two-hour drive takes you to the foot of the famous Snæfellsjökull Glacier, a dormant 700000-year-old stratovolcano rising 1446m above sea level. It is best known from Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Ascending the volcano takes 6-7 hrs, and the panoramic view from the top is sensational.

Day 2: Snæfellsnes – Golden Circle

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The day after your first summit will be a sightseeing day. Visit the highlights of the Snæfellsnes peninsula including the basalt rock formation of Arnarstapi, Djúpalónssandur pebble beach, and the much-photographed mountain Kirkjufell. Continue south, driving through the Borgarfjörður area where you explore the wonderful waterfall of Hraunfossar, before continuing onwards to the Golden Circle which includes Thingvellir National Park, the geothermal area of Geysir and the majestic Gullfoss waterfall.

Day 3: Eyjafjallajökull Glacier

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Today will be your second challenge; the climb of the famous Eyjafjallajökull which erupted in 2010 and caused enormous disruption to air travel across western and northern Europe for several days. It is a 1,651m high stratovolcano with a magnificent view from the top. The vertical ascent is around 1,600 m and the climbing takes from 9-12 hours.

Day 4: South Coast – Glacier Lagoon

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Explore the beautiful South Coast today including many highlights like the black beach of Reynisfjara, the picturesque village Vík, the Skaftafell National Park, the glacier Lagoon Jökulsárlón and diamond beach.

Day 5: Hvannadalshnjúkur

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
You can expect a long day today, as you make the ascent of Hvannadalshnúkur (2110 m/6922 ft). Iceland’s highest peak. This will be the most difficult day of the trip with 2000m ascension that can take from 12-15 hours.  The peak is in the north-western rim of the Öræfajökull volcano and promises an unforgettable hike with breathtaking panoramic views. No special technical skills are required.

*In case snow/weather conditions are not good on Hvannadalshnúkur, the itinerary will have to be changed to Hrútsfjallstindar or another similar summit.

Day 6: Return to Reykjavík

  • 1 Breakfast
Make your way back westward along the scenic south coast of Iceland, passing beneath Eyjafjallajökull and visit the impressive Skógarfoss waterfall. Return to Reykjavík in the late afternoon.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.
