Welcome to Japan! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted at the arrivals lobby and brought to your hotel in Tokyo via private transfer. After settling into your accommodation, have an orientation with your guide, where they will give you all the tickets and information you need for your trip. Enjoy some free time before heading out for a night exploring the town independently.
Take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to explore the wonders of historic Kanazawa, where you will meet your guide for the day. A must-see stop is Kenrokuen, a stunning Japanese strolling garden, considered one of the three finest in the country. Nearby, visit the Kanazawa Castle, constructed using traditional wooden joinery techniques, and one of the largest structures to have survived since the Meiji era.
Next, visit a historic district where geisha once entertained nightly in atmospheric teahouses. As an optional activity, step inside one of these charming teahouses and have the rare opportunity to meet a real-life geisha. Afterward, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 3: Kanazawa Free Day: Markets, Samurai, and Museums
Today is a free day for you to explore and enjoy the beautiful city of Kanazawa independently.
To maximize your day, we recommend the following:
Visit Omicho Market, known for its fresh seafood and vibrant atmosphere. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious lunch with some of the freshest fish in the region. After the market, you may want to explore the Nagamachi Samurai District, where you can step inside the preserved homes of samurai families and get a glimpse of life in the Edo period.
For art lovers, a visit to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art is highly recommended, showcasing innovative modern works in a stunning circular building. Alternatively, you can immerse yourself in the peaceful world of Zen at the D. T. Suzuki Museum, dedicated to the philosopher who played a key role in introducing Zen Buddhism to the world. Enjoy your day exploring the unique cultural and historical treasures of Kanazawa!
Start your journey today with a scenic Shinkansen train ride from Kanazawa to Kaga Onsen, a region renowned for its natural hot springs and traditional hospitality. Upon arrival at the station, take a local bus to Yamanaka Onsen, where your ryokan (traditional inn with onsen hot springs) awaits.
After checking in, take some time to unwind in the ryokan’s soothing onsen and enjoy the serene surroundings. The afternoon is yours to explore at leisure—stroll through the charming onsen village of Yamanaka Onsen, known for its historic atmosphere, quaint shops, and peaceful nature trails. A highlight of the area to explore is Ayatoribashi, a striking red bridge stretching over the Kakusenkei Gorge. The view from the bridge offers a stunning perspective of the lush valley, especially beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold.
In the evening, return to your ryokan for a relaxing soak in the hot spring and a kaiseki dinner, a multi-course meal featuring seasonal delicacies.
Day 5: Echizen Craftsmanship | Shinkansen to Kyoto
After breakfast, meet your guide and travel to Echizen, a region famous for its world-class craftsmanship. Begin at Takefu Knife Village, where skilled artisans forge high-quality knives using time-honored techniques. Watch the process up close and learn what sets Echizen blades apart.
Next, visit a village with over 1,300 years of history in traditional Japanese papermaking. Here, meet local artisans and gain insight into the delicate process of creating Echizen washi, one of Japan’s finest handmade papers. In the afternoon, board the Shinkansen and head to Kyoto.
After checking into your hotel, explore Kyoto at your leisure for the rest of the day.
After breakfast, take public transportation for a half-day guided tour of Kyoto's rich cultural heritage. Begin in Arashiyama, strolling through the breathtaking iconic bamboo grove, followed by a visit to Tenryu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning Zen garden. For lunch, enjoy a Shojin Ryori meal, a traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, within Tenryu-ji’s serene temple grounds.

Or if you are feeling adventurous, consider traveling further south to Nara, a historic city filled with cultural treasures. In Nara Park, encounter the famous free-roaming deer, considered sacred messengers of the gods. Nearby is Todai-ji Temple, home to the Great Buddha, one of the largest bronze statues of Buddha in the world. Discover the beauty of Kyoto and explore the amazing nature and rich history of Japan.

This trip is enjoyable most of the year, but June is typically considered a rainy month, and September is typically typhoon season. July and August are very hot months for traveling in Japan.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
