Southern Ocean Lodge

Southern Ocean Lodge sits on the Hanson Bay clifftops beside Flinders Chase National Park. Designed by Kangaroo Island-born architect Max Pritchard, the original lodge opened in 2008, was destroyed in the 2019–2020 bushfires, and reopened after rebuilding in 2023. The curved design follows the coast, with floor-to-ceiling glass, local limestone, commissioned artworks, and bespoke furniture. Solar power, batteries, and a reverse osmosis water system support the lodge, with 5.8 million litres (1.5 million US gal) of water storage.

Rooms & Suites
The lodge has 25 ocean-facing suites, from one-bedroom suites to two-bedroom pavilions that can combine into a four-bedroom residence. All feature floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor terraces, EcoSmart fireplaces, premium in-suite bars, king beds, walk-in robes, and ensuite bathrooms with baths and rain showers. Twin bedding is available in many rooms. Wi-Fi is complimentary, and smoking is prohibited. One Flinders Suite is wheelchair accessible.

Stays are all-inclusive, covering breakfast, lunch, four-course dinner, premium beverages, in-suite bar, signature guided experiences, and shared return airport transfers. Facilities include the Great Room, restaurant, walk-in wine cellar, infinity pool, Southern Spa, gym, outdoor sauna, hot and cold plunge pools, and terrace. Self-guided walks range from 1 km (0.6 mi) to 13 km (8.1 mi), with complimentary mountain bikes for a 6 km (3.7 mi) loop. Parking and an EV charger are available. Mobile reception is limited to Telstra.
