Tawi Lodge

Tawi Lodge sits within the Tawi Conservancy, a 3,000-acre (1,214 ha) community conservancy formed by the lodge owners with local Maasai landowners. The land lies on an elephant corridor linking Amboseli with the Chyulu Hills and Tsavo, and elephants often pass close to the cottages. The grounds include succulent gardens, natural springs, and tortilis acacia trees, with more than 150 bird species recorded. Mount Kilimanjaro, 5,895 m (19,341 ft), is visible from the property. The lodge holds a Gold eco-tourism rating and runs mainly on solar power. Maasai landowners earn income from land leases and bed-night fees, and the lodge employs and trains local residents, sponsors secondary school students, and supports the nearby Lemong’o school.

Rooms & Suites
Tawi Lodge has guest cottages, set on either side of the main lodge building, and one suite. All cottages face Mount Kilimanjaro and have a private deck, a large four-poster bed, a fireplace, spacious hanging cupboards, and a large lockable wooden chest for valuables. Each en-suite bathroom has both a bathtub and a shower, with solar-heated hot water. Rooms have 24-hour power, mainly from solar with generator backup, so guests can charge phones, cameras, and computers at any time. CPAP machines can be used at night, and hairdryers can be used at set times of day. Wi-Fi is not available in the rooms. Hot tea and coffee are brought to each cottage at sunrise. Cottage is suitable for wheelchair access.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
Meals are served in the main dining room or in the garden. They use East African ingredients, with vegetables and greens picked daily from the lodge gardens, and the kitchen makes its own yogurt, juices, breads, and breakfast cereals. The chef can meet special dietary needs with advance notice, and picnic breakfasts or lunches can be arranged with prior notice. The main lounge has a fireplace and a bar, and a second bar sits beside an outdoor central fireplace overlooking the waterhole. A swimming pool with sunbeds on wooden decks looks over the same waterhole, and there is also an outdoor hot tub. The spa offers massages, pedicures, manicures, and reflexology. Other common areas include a small upper deck lounge and a gift shop. Free Wi-Fi is available in the main lounge only. Drinking water is treated by reverse osmosis and filtration, and a solar-powered electric fence surrounds the lodge compound.
