Ol Donyo Lodge

Ol Donyo Lodge sits on a hillside in the Chyulu Hills, with views across the savannah toward Mount Kilimanjaro. The lodge is on the Mbirikani Ranch, private land owned by 4,000 Maasai, and its design combines contemporary architecture with Maasai culture. It is part of the Great Plains Réserve-Collection and a member of Relais & Châteaux. Rates cover accommodation, scheduled activities including horseback riding, all meals, drinks, laundry, and Big Life conservation fees, so each stay contributes to protecting the area’s wildlife and supporting local communities. Through the Great Plains Foundation, the company runs Student Conservation Camps for children in Kenya and Botswana and arranges guest visits to two local schools.

Rooms & Suites
The lodge has eight suites and one two-bedroom family suite. Each suite has an indoor lounge area and both covered and open-air private verandas leading to a private swimming pool, with views over the plains toward Mount Kilimanjaro. A star bed on each suite’s rooftop allows guests to sleep outdoors, and this experience is included in the rate. The en-suite bathrooms have an indoor bath and both indoor and outdoor showers. Binoculars are available for guest use.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
The main area overlooks a waterhole and opens onto a fire deck for evenings outdoors. Two hides sit at the waterhole in front of the main area, a sunken hide with a coffee machine and fridge, and an open-air hide, and guests can stay in them all day to watch wildlife at close range. Spa treatments are offered at the spa or in the suites. All meals are included, along with non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, including premium-brand spirits and champagne. Daily laundry service is included. Road transfers to and from the Chyulu airstrip are included, as are scheduled air transfers from Nairobi Wilson Airport or other properties in the Chyulu Hills and Amboseli region for stays of two nights or more.
