Kamu Lodge opened in 2004 and is an eco-lodge that seeks to balance tourism and the regions's cultural and ethnic heritage. It is located on the banks of the Mekong River surrounded by rice fields, small villages and mountains. Accessible only by boat, the lodge has no WiFi or satellite and has limited electricity which is generated by solar panel. There are 20 safari tents for you to choose from and plenty of space to explore. The tent-lodges are thick-walled with a thatched roof and a rustic feel. Each lodge has a stone annex and traditional bathroom.
The lodge works closely with Kamu Village and allows you to see first hand the rural life in Laos. The lodge is located adjacent to the village and the owners work closely with the village head to ensure a seamless relationship. You are encouraged to learn about the culture and take part in the local activities so you can better understand life in the village.
Dining at the lodge is in a stilted pavilion that sits on a bluff above the river. The menu often consists of fish from the Mekong, pork raised by local farmers and beef or buffalo. The rice and produce are grown in the area the dishes vary by season. Lunch and dinner are more traditional Lao cuisine and breakfast is Western comfort food. There is also a bar in the lodge that offers a variety of drinks that are local and imported.
