Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Your expedition begins in the most Northerly town in the world, Longyearbyen. In the afternoon you embark on your expedition vessel at the port of Longyearbyen. After an introduction from your expedition leader and a safety briefing from the Captain, you set sail out through the majestic Adventfjord. As Longyearbyen disappears astern, you wave goodbye to civilization for the next 9 days. As you sail out through the Isfjord you spend time on deck watching for the whales that frequent the waters.
In the morning, you approach Prins Karls Foreland, an uninhabited island of beautiful scenery off the west coast of Spitsbergen. You will drop anchor and launch the Zodiac landing craft to go ashore and visit an area where walruses haul out. In the afternoon you will do a wilderness hike. You frequently see Svalbard reindeer here. If the conditions allow you will sail up to the edge of the sea ice which extends all the way to the North Pole. In calm conditions, you will cruise the edge of the sea ice keeping a sharp lookout for wildlife including polar bears that hunt on the ice.
Every voyage undertaken to Svalbard involves an element of exploration. As part of your Svalbard experience, you will have a few days with no set itinerary. Under the guidance of your expedition leader, you will work with the weather and sea ice conditions to explore the best that the northwest coast has to offer. Over the next 3 days, you will cruise around the coast with regular shore landings to visit various natural and historical sites, including glaciers, while also doing wilderness hikes and spending time enjoying the raw nature of the Arctic.
As you sail back south, you will explore the area and Kongsfjorden. You can expect majestic glaciers, some of Svalbard's most beautiful fjords, and stunning scenery from the decks. Here, you will encounter one of Svalbard's most breathtaking sites, the Lilliehook glacier, one of Svalbard's largest calving glacier fronts. You will have the opportunity to spend time here witnessing nature's beauty in its rawest form, with the option of doing a wilderness hike to a neighboring fjord.

Everything was amazing! The planning with Adventure Life went smoothly. The actual trip was fantastic! One of the best trips I have experienced. The cruise staff members were knowledgeable and attentive. I will be writing more about this on the blog!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
